• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Do you still have a 2135 key on your keyring?

I have a collection through the various style changes. If anyone wants to offer up any vintage keys to add to my collection, I'll send a SASE.

And yes, on my keyring, right next to my 1-1

I have a special key ring for site and cabinet keys. I probably still have keys to Sears (Willis) Tower roof access on that ring. I have a few other 2135 keys stuck in drawer units and elsewhere. Can't be locked out of the radio works.

Still used on an APX mobile radio for the mounting bracket. At work I've got a bin of about a hundred 2135 keys. But none on my own keyring.
I sold a few for about $9 each shipped airmail. There is demand. Someone was reaching out for a bunch recently for a fleet pile of radio brackets.

I have one on my key ring. Got to use it fairly recently at the clubs site. Someone had a 100w MSR2000 cabinet sittting in front of a rack, labeled as the back up for our 100w MSR2000 primary repeater... Even though we have a plethora of modern, 100w repeaters, not doing anything. 🤦🏼‍♂🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️🙄🙄🙄

Some people are still stuck in the 80's and think if it isn't crystal controlled, it's modern junk, that doesn't have a good front end. Thankfully those people are no longer the decision makers. These same people retired when that was the most modern station they had worked on.

One on my keys that I carry every day. One in my work truck. And 3 backups on a key ring in my desk, standing by in an ever state of readiness.

I threw out about 200 of them a few years ago. Years worth of them.

I agree, I think anyone who's worked in the industry for more than a short time has one.
I've got a bunch in a drawer. And a ring in the truck with all kinds of other weird keys.
But I think I've only got one or two cabinets left that actually use them.

I've still got 2135, 2252, 2558 and a couple GE BF-10A keys, too. I'm retired, but you just never know when you might need them....

I remember an upright Amana freezer we had in the 70s that used the 2135 key. I s'pose the lock was for those folks who had the freezer in an outbuilding.
