I am having to use the Attenuator to get signals from the airport. I was wondering if anyone has a Variable Attenuator or a Notch/Band pass filter I can try out for a day and see if it makes anything better. I think I am getting overloaded. I just dont want to spend $30 on a filter that will not work for me. I found a site here that has some if you dont know what im referring to http://www.scannermaster.com/Filters_s/39.htm thanks.

Which airport and what frequencies? Are you using AM? Also what does the overload sound like?

Kbtr, 120.3, 118.45, 126.5, ect. With ATT off the sound is just squelchy. With it on, I can hear the tower pretty good, planes in the air good, and planes on the ground ok. The thing is before I raised the 21' scantenna I could hear better on the ground with the ATT off. but now that it is in the air I have to turn on ATT to hear anything at all.

That sounds like overload/desense to me. I had similiar issues with the higher up and better antennas just getting overloaded. I have most of the filters from that page and they help really well when it comes to dealing with knocking down stronger signals that cause these issues. Most of my troubles were coming from FM broadcast, but I've found specialized use for each filter.

Another good test I've found is to listen to the NOAA weather channels with and without the radio's attenuater (ATT) function. If you hear none without ATT and most/all with ATT, you indeed have overloading.
