We have been messing with DMR and IDAS/NXDN quite abit here in WI. Digital Speech Decoder is now available for windows so this has helped with listening, but it is rather unrefined. For IDAS and NXDN Trunking we have been using ICOM IDAS radios. The Kenwood radios will not work to listen to NXDN trunking unless you have the system key. ICOM IDAS does not require system keys, and and DMR radio will work for DMR, however we have been using Motorola only because we received them cheap. By using the programing software, DSD, DMRdecode, and trial and error. we have figured out some hints and tricks to effectively monitor these modes.

I guess I should answer my own question to get things warmed up.

I monitor and talk on all the ham repeaters. I used to monitor city of canton pd on nxdn before they went from vn to n then I lost them.

I'm thinking about getting DMR equipment. Just wondered what you are using for ham and monitoring?

What I use for dmr currently is a moto xpr6350.
For NXDN, I have icoms. 4061 portable, 5061 (vhf) mobile and 6061 mobile. The drawback to the icoms is they only do 6.25khz not 12.5 which isn't an issue with the ham stuff but it may be for what you want to listen to.

I haven't gotten around to playing around with any DTV cards or any of the software.

Saw where you used to listen to Canton GA PD. I'm in the area and wanted to see if there's anyway possible to listen to Canton PD now? if so, what equipment, type of scanner is needed? Thanks for any information. Happy New Years!

Once upon a time I could monitor their NXDN traffic with an NXDN radio but not any more. No scanner currently on the market will be able to listen. For what it's worth, you aren't missing anything. It was the most boring thing in the world to listen to. Nothing but running license plates all day. Nothing ever happens there.

If you can in fact still listen, you can't listen with an Icom. You'll need a Kenwood. But I would be surprised. Last I heard they were going away from NXDN anyway.
