Does Seattle do all dispatches via terminal?

I currently have all the Seattle PD talkgroups associated with the Seattle control freq. I do hear seattle cars, but I don't think I've ever heard an actual dispatch. I hear the results, and have heard when a channel will get "toned". But never a dispatch call.

Does SeattlePD only use their display terminals? Or am I missing some talkgroup, or control freq, or something?

I sure must be missing something. Is seattlePD on something other than the SeattleSimulcast trunk?

I'm listening to my scanner and hearing very little. I went to scanseattle.net and listened to their feed and it's busy as heck.

I currently have all SeattlePD talkgroupID's sitting under SeattleSimulcast at a control frequency of 0868.1750.

I know that police agencies around the country (and around the world for that matter) have been migrating from radio dispatch to the MDT's - Mobile Data Terminals.
I don't have any of the Seattle PD talkgroups (other than Data) programmed into my scanner. I haven't paid much attention to which control chanel it comes up on, but I notice that much of the trunked stuff for South King County agencies comes up on the ESPCA Simulcast. You could try that or one one of the other control channels or wait for someone more knowledeable about the SPD to respond.

Where are you listening from? You probably need a different control channel as mentioned above.Either EPSCA(868.2000 or 868.7750) or King County/Valcom system(851.81250) might work better.I live in Kent and hear SPD fine with 851.81250 as control channel.

Well, I'm in Redmond up on Education Hill (The west side of the hill.)

I have SPD under:

Apple Cove: 868.225, 868.650
North Seattle: 868.950, 868.975
Seattle: 868.175

I do have:
KC: 851.8125
EPSCA: 868.200, 868.775

And have them in ID search mode, but have not heard a single Seattle TalkgroupID on either. I'll try dropping the SPD group into both of these anyway and see what happens.

I'm wondering if there are some talkgroupID's that are being used that aren't in the RR database? But that should be discovered during the IDSearch.

Thanks for the assistance!

i think generally, SPD does not talk that much (maybe if you consider all the channels they do). dispatchers do talk tho. they even jump about on the different dispatch channels sometimes. i've hear two dispatchers on one channel; one sometimes gives updates and the other copies info (this happens every ones and a while).

i think seattle is confusing to listen to because their (radio) procedures are different than most other local agencies. for example, they sometimes don't close the air for pursuits nor for perimeters when k9 is running.

i like SPD, but they are not fun to listen to (in my opinion)

you need to be on the seattle trunk system (0868.1750) to ensure 100% of seattle chat, Seattle is non stop talk they are as chatty as KCSO

3248 Seattle PD WEST
3440 Seattle PD TAC1
3472 Seattle PD TAC2
3504 Seattle PD TAC3
3536 Seattle PD TAC4
3632 Seattle PD E-TAC
3664 Seattle PD S-TAC
3696 Seattle PD N-TAC
3728 Seattle PD W-TAC
3280 Seattle PD NORTH
3344 Seattle PD EAST
3312 Seattle PD SOUTH
3440 SPD TAC 1
3472 SPD TAC 2
3540 SPD TAC 3
3536 SPD TAC 4

I guess i must disagree with this chain, they chat a lot and they are non-stop action, unlike KCSO that is just area checks

Then I'm at a loss. Maybe I just can't get most of it in Redmond. I hear some chatting every once in a while. I do hear the aftermath sometimes, but it's far from chatty from where I sit on that trunk system. And I have still yet to hear a single dispatcher actually dispatching a call. I only hear them answering calls from units.

Maybe I need an outdoor scanner antenna.

can you pick up 0868.1750? thats seattle.

KC will have just about everything as well, its quiet this evening (the day of the snow) but there is activity every 20 seconds at least, Im currently in bellevue and in my location i use a stubby duck (to effectivly notch only 800 since bellevue is quite RF unfriendly) and I have a clear shot to every trunk tower in KC so I am in a nice spot. Try just listening to the 0868.1750 and see how well you pick up the trunk data.

If you got nothing then use KC simulcast, I do think its quite today, seems if they are short officers, they keep telling people going off shift to check with the on duty before sign-off and there are a lot of officers saying "it will take a while" dont know if its the snow or short staff slowing things down.

You need these frequencies that are for the control channels. If you don't have them. You'll miss out .

851.4125,868.225,868.650,868.750,868.175.

These are all you'll need to monitor the talkgroups you program in on your own. Or scan in open mode and hear whatever.

I'll give a try creating a system for each of those control nodes. See if that improves things.

Thanks!

What kind of scanner do you have ? If it uses control channel scanning. You can just program in the frequencies I have listed above. Making sure your scanner is set for motorola type II trunking. I assure you, there's plenty to listen to on this system .If your scanner or scanners are programmed correctlty. You DO NOT need to create a seperate bank for each control channel! Steve

I have a Uniden BR330T. The thing that I understand with the BR330T is no matter how many control channels you put in, the scanner will stop on the first one it detects and never change off of that one. Even if there is a stronger one, or different talkgroups on a different one. It wasn't until later Unidens that they allowed several control channels and scanned each one each time.

The only way to get the 330 to a different control channel is turning the radio off, then back on.

That's the *only* thing that really sucks on the 330.

Well,I replied to your posting via e mail after you contacted me. In a perfect world you'd have two or more scanners capable of meeting all,or most of your needs. I can't wait to get my hands on a PCR 500. or two,or three! Keep in touch! Steve

It took a while to get the wife to agree to this scanner. It's going to take a while before I can get 2 or 3 :D

My next scanner will either be a Uniden 396, or a PCR500.

I just ordered a scantenna and am planning on putting that up on the TV antenna mast on the chimney, so hopefully that will improve things quite a bit!

P.S. The wife has been asking that I turn on the scanner when we are in the living room. So there are hopeful signs I can expand this hobby ;)

You are right about the strongest control channel! You do need to seperate the systems like you described.
