does v3 update really work better?

I hate to see some folks not getting good results with their 396/v3.01 upgrade. But since I upgraded mine the digital sounds smoother, no motorboating and the error rates are close to zero. This is with mixed-mode SmartZone systems, conventional P25 on VHF and P25 on 800MHz. The upgrade does allow the 396 to auto adjust to the digi transmissions, but I found a manual setting appears to work better, especially if I'm in the car and picking up distant/weak digi signals. I'm very pleased with the upgrade. Could it be that some people's issues have to do with the updated file getting corrupted during the download process? Just guessing. Good luck.

I've had nothing but problems with V3.1 on either my 996 or the 396 when listening on the Bell Fleetnet system. I've since reverted back to V2 on both units.

To revert back to V2, just follow the update procedure (hold L/O and 6 while turning on unit) load the update program, select the V2 firmware and blast away. The registration key is NOT needed when downgrading!

I too went back to v2.00.07 last night I updaated from v2.00.07 to v3.01.00 the digital sounded a little clearer, but I never had an issue. I did like the new Close Call feature, but the conventional stuff went right in the toilet.

To anyone that says the firmware does not do anything to the reception is a...well incorrect. I set my scanner in the same spot on my desk and after the v3.01.00 update it all went bad, my friends $20 pawn shop scanner was going off and mine was just scanning. I reloaded the database from before the update and no difference, I just went back to v2.00.07 and wham! My scanner is blasting again and I didn't have to reload it, nor did I have to reload from v1 to anything.

Now I am really pissed! my scanner will not pick-up any of the LASD freqs. Like this and others...

Converntional, nothing special, I have defaulted the scanner, loaded numerous backups and even built a new system, group and put it all in by hand. Nothing!!! I defaulted again and pulled the batteries and gonna let it sit. And work on it tomorrow. This all started from the v3.01.00 update last night. After going back to v2.00.07 everything was working as it used to with the exception of this. UGH! Anyone got any ideas, could it be some sort of stuck setting from the v3 update? Please help!

I've noticed that UPMAN is always ready and willing to help people with problems, even when a quick search of the forums probably would have remedied their issues. However, I've also noticed a conspicuous absence of his input on this particular point - updating to 3.01.00 caused worse, and/or lack of, reception of various systems. UPMAN, what are your thoughts? User errors? Legitimate complaints? Don't have enough input upon which to base an opinion? Other?

I'd say that Upman is pretty busy and thats why he hasn't been able to comment on this. However I had the same issue with the first install of the new firmware so I reinstalled the programming. That didn't help so I re-downloaded the firmware and I reinstalled the firmware and the programming, been working great since. Also check the squelch setting, sometimes it can be changed, mine went to zero with this update.

I did the same and had no luck, but I will try again tonight as well as to load the factory defaults then my data. It seem to me that a setting is stuck from the v3 flash. This is what my sys info says, note the "M-Ver =" from v3 back to v2...
