Though I DO like Dog and his family
I despise with ALLLL my breath Jerry Springer and MAury Povich...
They are meant for the braindead hater types....
Anyhow as far as the radios I would also they would be low powered as they wouldnt want all of Ha waii to know that they are going to do a bust...
The feds when using surveillance do the same low powered techniques
Oh And Geraldo Kick Butt LOL
:p

I like Dr. Phil. :p

I have always wondered this as well. My guess is that they are somewhere between 450 and 490Mhz. Look at their antennas and then do a match of the radios to the manufacturer. Not only can Duane NOT carry a gun because of his felonies, I also believe he cannot hold an FCC license in any radio service due to the "No Felonies" / "Personal Character" rules they enforce.

I think Duane is an excellent man, but can't help but wonder why he is allowed to hold a license in his profession with the felony convictions he has. Anyone else would be told to take a long hike.

This would explain why no one has been able to find anything in the database. Try searching under his Wife's and kid's names.

New findings:

Da Kine Bail Bonds is the name of the company he runs and there are 1,063 Chapmans listed in the ULS database under various radio services. My best idea is to sit in the neighborhood around where Da Kine offices are and discreetly monitor for their voices. It can't be that hard because these people have VERY distinct voices...I haven't been watching the show that long and I can tell Duane's voice anywhere or Beth's, or any other of his staffers.

Don't be afraid to follow them on a surveillance either to find out if you want it bad enough because they are not the police and they are not emergency personnel of any sort, so that rule can take a hike. I can tell you for sure that they are using simplex versus a trunked system just by watching the operation of the radios and the sound of the system. Trunked systems have a distinct sound to them as do LTR systems. I don't hear any beeps, don't hear any of the higher quality audio on the radios that is usually present on these types of systems. I don't see any other characteristic of a big system.

It's definitely simplex between 450 and 490. Try more specifically between 461 even and 469.9875. Likely it'll be a 12.5Khz step, just a nagging suspicion. They're not running more than 5 watts out of those radios for sure and not less than 1 watt from what I can tell based on the distances I've watched them use their comms from.

It surely isn't anything in the 150Mhz range because it wouldn't carry that well in long distances without a nice band opening or use of a good repeater system. Anyone for database hunting? Here's alink to Bobby Brown's business (Dog's good friend) http://bobbybrown.com/news.htm
Bobby Brown even does Colorado Bail Enforcement Certification classes! (Is there such a thing?) I know illinois and Kentucky are absolutely against bail enforcement agenst because of the low level of training they have versus the specialized training the REAL police have.

Another idea to detect these guys would be to find out if Da Kine is owned by another company that just leaves Duane in charge of that specific portion of the company. Bail bonds is an expensive business, so someone has to be underwriting him. If anyone finds anything, please consider being kind enough to stream the real time audio on-line.

on tonights show they had the Kenwood 3170 UHF radios on there

they had about 10-12 in bank chargers..

http://www.kenwoodusa.com/Communications/Land_Mobile_Radio/Business_n_Industry/TK-2170-3170

In last night's 'new' episode (some of these 'new' episodes were actually filmed over a year ago) they showed the radios sitting in a gang charger & individual chargers at their Hawaii location. I freeze-framed it on my Tivo & took a look at Kenwood's land mobile radio product web page.

I disagree that they're using TK-3170s, as the radios shown last night had no DTMF keypads at the bottom.

Best I could tell, they're using something SIMILAR to Kenwood TK-3173s (small LCD display & 4 menu buttons underneath) as well as a couple models that don't have the LCD display or menu-buttons on the front, like models TK-2202/3202, 2200/3200 or 2160/3160.

As for freq spectrum, the above radios come in VHF & UHF (450-490) versions. To me, most of the antennas look more like VHF, though a couple of the radios do have stubby antennas. At least one of the stubby antennas had a red band on the top, which seems to usually be a manufacturer's code indicating the antennas is designed for about 150-155MHz.

As for their Colorado ops, in a 'new' episode I caught earlier this month, they showed a couple of the speaker-mics close enough to clearly see the /V\otorola on them, which leads me to believe they're using Motorolas in Colorado. As one point when it seemed like the cars were a mile or so apart, one asked the other if he could still hear him, which leads me to conclude they use simplex.

Audio quality leads me to believe no encryption is involved.

Radios

From watching the show on numerous ocassions, I always wonder how they were able to communicate very well with each other in the car to car sector. But, the red would indicate vhf as well, however I have seen some examples where that has proven not to be the case. And yes, in colorado their using motorola radios, i think somthing like the cp200 series or around that line. Their more apt to be on a repeater their then in HI as well as being on uhf.

VHF makes perfect sense for HI and does not surprise me at all for them. I just wonder if the have a car repeater. A in car device (usually made by vertex) thats tucked up in the back that realys comms back fourth to carry it stronger.

But, I will attempt to try and pay more attention to pin down the radio in future esipodes for kenwood.

I got a look at one of his 200's in the colorado shows and the antenna's look like uhf antennas to me so my gusess is they must be running off of one of the gmrs or frs channels there I'm surpirzed Duane would waste money on something like a cp200 and just use one of those talkaround deals

Maybe Some Luck

Ok, I have a friend in Hawaii doing some digging, and maybe he'll come up with a freq if we get lucky. Has anyone in Hawaii had any luck so far?

I remember him saying in one episode if you're close enough to get us on the radio you're not to far away so KB1JFR may be correct

His show should be taken off the air. His whole group is a bunch of idiot's. They are lucky they don't all get arrested the way they push everybody around. They touch anybody not wanted the it's battery. Don't think his wife could keep up with anybody.

Come on EMSFF, "Dog" is entertainment. Regular bail agent work is about as exciting as watching a plant grow. College wrestling versus the WWE, if you will. If you put the real bail enforcement guys on TV, it will get cancelled in a week due to boredom.
