• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was going to ask you why you mounted both units so deep into the dash kit, but once I scrolled down I understood.

Pretty cool

What type of vehicle is this? I'm interested because I'm thinking about doing something like this in my 2006 Tundra. I have a Sony Stereo that is single DIN sized. It looks as if I can get both radios in there with no real trouble.

Any hints on doing this?

Did you install the Sony? Can you post a pic of your dash on a new thread/post, and I'll see how I can help you.

Basically, you need to find out if your truck can accomodate a double Din radio. If so, it should work. You'll have to purchase an installation kit for a double din that's specific for you vehicle.

I'm not sure if you're replying to me or not, but I'll answer anyway.

I haven't installed the Sony in this Tundra, but took it out of my 2001 Tundra earlier this week. I installed it in that truck last year. Since the OEM radio is double DIN, the radio kit came with a small bin that took up the space below the radio. The Toyota bracket is designed for a DD radio, so hopefully there will be some holes that will line up with the holes that Uniden put in the 996T. If I need to, I'll put a strap at the back of the radios, both of which are threaded for M4 bolts.

There really isn't a reason that it shouldn't work. I just have to find a space for the XM direct and adapter boxes, but those might go lower down where the OEM radio amplifier sits.

The only real PITA will be if I have to take the 996 out for service, but even that's not a major problem.

I've done about a dozen stereo installations in a variety of Toyotas and they have all been pretty easy to work on.

very sweet!

That is a great install. I am interested in doing the same thing and I'm wondering if you could give me your opinion.

Do you think the same thing could be done with this double DIN

It looks like it will fit. Both radios will be recessed.

Would you like better pictures of what I got or dimensions? Just let me know.

Yes, the recessed look is a little different, but I can live with it.

Theoretically it should fit if the face of the stereo receiver isn't too much taller than the standard DIN height. I'll let you know if I need measurements for sure - thanks!

Alpine

Does that Alpine have switchable display colors?
If so do you know how to change colors?

I bought one used, no manual.

Hi John,

Sorry for the delayed response, I've been hanging out in model train forums. Anyhow, I don't think you can change the color. I've never figured it out myself.

You should be able to download the manual from
