On my way home from Norman while ago, I noticed that reception of the DPS OKC Site was rather poor on my portable. When I got to 12th and S. Sooner Road, I checked during a transmission and I was only getting two out of five bars on the signal strength meter. I looked down a half mile to the west on 12th street and the water tower hadn't toppled over, but I'll bet those two bars were coming excusively from the 36th and MLK transmitter location.

I had bad reception on the south side on Friday when I was driving across I-240 using a mobile with an external antenna. It was almost impeccable in that area earlier in the week.

Something odd is going on the system as of today acts as if it is not in full simulcast mode. It sounds like some but not all freqs are transmitting from Moore and those not working from Moore are alternating from NE 36th. Someone makes a transmission and it comes out on a Moore freq as it is strong and clear in Norman then the reply pops to a much weaker freq. On the City of Norman dual site all transmissions from a talk group appear to be transmitted on the same freq from both sites i.e. simulcasted. Perhaps OKC DPS is not made it to its completed format??

It appears to be back up today.

Whatever it was, I guess they got it adjusted, today, I didn't get down to two signal strength bars on the OKC/Moore site until I got to 60th street NW and Robinson in west Norman.

When I'm using my portable, it sits in a cell phone holder that fits in one of the cup holders between the shifter and the lower dash which means that it is buried in an rf compromized zone comprised of metal door panels, engine block, and me. I'd say that they have reason to be pleased with the coverage from that transmitter site in Moore. :)
