Just got a new Pro 668 from a non-radio shack source. I'm having two problems with it and I would appreciate any help you can offer...

1) SD card I received was blank, found the software in the forum and loaded it, works great and like the scanner and software. However the folder with drivers is empty which may be why the software isn't recognizing the scanner. I can load files to the SD card if I use adapter and copy to it from the PC, but when I try to copy to the SD card while in the scanner AND if I try to update the CPU and DSP firmware the computer says the scanner isn't connected. Guessing I'm missing drivers. Any suggestions.

2) Used the software to load in Wake County NC trunked system, this is a rebanded system. Checked the table and it appears to be the same as what is in my Pro-197 and Pro-96 but it's not picking up anything. Any suggestions.

Thanks

Worked out issue number 2, But I still can not connect the scanner to the software to update firmware or scan lists, I've tried everything I saw in the forums here. I can update scan lists by saving directly to SD card. Really would like some help updating firmware though.

Thanks

I'll send you a PM with a link to download the original content of the SD card, it contains the INF file to install the device driver.

Back up your configuration data and then copy the content of the PRO-668 folder to the root of your SD card (just the sub-folders, not the PRO-668 folder) beginning with BTMP and ending with CURVS.DAT.

You may want to uninstall the software first, and then connect the scanner to your PC. It should proceed with a normal install.

If all goes well, just import your archived configuration data back to the card. Be forewarned, the software is very buggy. It also does not properly change some of the DSP settings, those have to be done manually on the scanner.

Remove the batteries and connect it to computer. Is it being recognized? I had the same problem.

Tried that thank you. The computer recognizes it fine, but the software won't. I can not read directly to or from scanner, and can't update firmware. Thought it was a driver issue because the driver folder was empty after I installed it. But I've uninstalled and reinstalled it using contents of SD card from a radio shack store and it's the same.

Well that's interesting - have you looked in device manager to see if there's a conflict with the driver? The other thing you might want to try is installing the software in Administrator Mode (Right click the setup program and select run as administrator).

One other thought is a bad USB cable, try another one and see if you can find the scanner.

Unfortunately that's the only cable I have for the scanner, unless my radio shack cable for the pro 197 will work. But I doubt it.

It will apply to Windows 10 as well. If your INF folder is empty, then it sounds like you have the same issue the thread addresses.

I tried that and it did ask me if I wanted to install an unsigned driver. Program now let me save configuration to scanner (never did before) twice. But it's still not letting me upgrade firmware.

Find the Pro668 executable in your Program Files (x86) folder, right click it selecting Properties - On the Compatibility Tab place a check mark in the Run This Program as an Administrator. Save and start the program again.

Okay InlandAZ I tried your suggestion but it didn't work, also tried changing compatibility mode to Windows 7,that didn't help either. I'm at a loss, might go to Radio Shack and see if they have a clue.

AtlasFBG2 no I turn it off plug in cable while pressing menu and it shows Boot Ver and App Ver...

That would make two of us N1GAW, the software is a POS, sorry guy - changing the mode to Windows 7 would have been my next suggestion.

Went to my NOT too close Radio Shack today and tried a different cable, it gave the same results. The problem is definitely driver related. I have both the radio shack driver and whistler version but neither will be recognized by the device manager, lists the scanner as Unknown Device. Guess firmware upgrade is on hold for now.

Ready to give up!

Getting frustrated with this GREAT new scanner.

In addition to the issue with drivers not being able to recognize scanner, I'm now having an issue with talk groups that leaves me total confused.

Scanning the Wake County Trunked Radio System, have multiple talk groups installed and am receiving some of the but not all. Have my pro 96 scanning same system and hearing dispatch channels, but not receiving them on 668. Other talk groups received fine on both radios at same time. Even when I stop scanning and monitor the one talk group for dispatch I'm not hearing anything.

Tried...
1. Uninstalling/reinstalling talk groups, then system
2. Tried Locking out and then deleting all other systems
3. Verified Custom Rebanding Table for system, CC and A freqs, TGID numbers
4. Tried monitoring only the one talk group

Anyone want to make suggestions?

Join the club, my 106/197 runs circles around the 668. Using an 800 MHz antenna will help, but it still has major issues with simulcast distortion and missed transmissions.

I hear it works well for some, but out this way it totally blows chunks on our Regional Wireless System.

Reducing the DSP Level Adapt to 50'ish has helped (rwier passed that one on to me). It does help, but its still nowhere near the other radios I own. I also found that reducing the ADC Gain to -2 improved the audio (simulcast distortion), but it still persists to some degree.

Don't bother changing the ADC Gain in the software, it never makes its way to the scanner. You have to do that one on the scanner.
