Hello forum members,
Near me I have a DMR repeater with Encryption, it says in the list of DSD+ enc group call alg=bp, but no keyid or anything, what should I enter the default FFFF or that of the well-known 255 motorola keys, who can explain that to me.

Regards Erik

I presume you are not in the US, based on your location.
My recollection is that there are no KeyID's for Motorola BP, with all 255 possible keys effectively fixed in the radio. DSD+ wont tell you what the key is either. If you a Motorola BP capable transceiver you'd be better to sequentially work through each of the 255 possibilities, see which one works.

The only problem is if the system is using Restricted Access To System (RAS), then you'll also have to know the RAS key in your Motorola radio to hear anything, even if you know the Basic Privacy (BP) key.

He's talking about DSD+...you're talking about a moto radio.

Well, someone mentioned "If you a Motorola BP capable transceiver ..." But on a side note, I've always wondered if there's a like a secret inside version of DSD+ that lets you listen to Basic Privacy (BP).

You will have to go through the 1-255 Motorola keys separately in the radio until you find one that works. DSDPlus will not identify the key in use

From what I understand (and I could be completely wrong) the KeyID reported through DSDPlus tells the radio what KeyID is being used - Example, if you have a radio that can cover different departments/sites, the KeyID corresponds to a Key programmed in the radio

BP doesn't use a KID, as that is essentially the key. No into other than the algo (BP) is transmitted over the air. Not sure what/where you are talking about entering a key value but you can't do that in DSD+. On a Moto radio you would have to try each key one at a time... On some Tytera radios etc you can enter a value for BP but you need a modded firmware for that (and no, I don't know where to get it).

Motorola does not care about KID. So long as the key is programmed into the radio (Max of 16 key ID's).

Tait on the other hand NEEDS the correct KID. Or it wont work. Tait ignores RAS, as it is a Motorola proprietary thing...

But I digress.

Oh and decrypting encryption is ahem, you know. BP is just scrambling, so not technically encryption. Nuf said...

...

Not sure about that. It does not care when it comes to BP because the KeyID is the actual key and it has to be the same on both ends.
On the other hand, if you use enhanced encryption, which is a bit more secure than BP and less secure than AES, the KeyID and the actual key value must match. It won't work if you have the same key value assigned to different KeyIDs.
Basically if DSD shows the KeyID that means the system is using enhanced encryption. Then you need to program the actual key value to the corresponding KeyID. If it shows only BP - then you have to guess which one is in use in order to hear them.
