• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm trying to program two DTR700s, one used and one new, using a Motorola cable and CPS_NA_R08.02. Each time I try to read the radio it returns the "Invalid Serial Number" error. I don't see a fix online. Any hints? Many thanks!

Make sure that you are using the Motorola PMKN4154A programming cable and Motorola CPS 2

That is neither the correct programming cable nor the correct programming software

CPS2 is for MotoTRBO radios, not DTR radios which require Business Radio CPS

That is correct, my Ooops. Been screwing around with my XPRs way too much lately. Yes, it is the Business Radio CPS and I am running the R09.05 version.

However, your answer regarding my DTR700 programming cable is wrong. The Motorola part number quoted on my DTR700 programming cable is what is marked on back of the "analog"/"digital" switch. That is the programming cable that was sent with my DTR700s and it works perfectly fine on my DTR700s. The cable connects to the radio charging cradle with an USB Mini and an USB A to the computer, and you have to make sure that the "analog"/"digital" switch is in the "digital" mode.

I don't have an answer for you at this time as to why you're getting that error. Is there any chance that you can post a picture of the CPS screen just before you try to read/write to the codeplug so I can see if I can identify anything?

PMKN4154 does not come up with any results in MOL or on Google, can you link where you got the cable from?

I'm using the correct cable with the analog/digital switch in the correct position. Windows 10. Should I reinstall CPS in a Windows 7 machine, maybe?

NO! You need to do your own research. This subject was discussed in this Forum that dates back to 2018 and you and the OP of this current discussion took part of that same subject discussion in 2019. Don't be lazy and look it up.

If Mike Z wants to crap all over my postings, please feel free to crap away. You can see that I don't care.

Further information: the radios I want to program interoperate correctly with my other DTR700s. But they're locked such that I can't change the profile IDs or modify other settings.

My setup reads two DTR700s perfectly but won't read two others, returning the "Invalid Serial Number" error. Any Motorola mavens know why? Thanks.

Just trying to keep this thread alive!

Update: I've factory reset the radios and they work fine, but I am still unable to change the Profile ID and I still get the Invalid Serial Number error. CPS works fine on radios I bought from a dealer, but not on new-in-box radios I bought on eBay. Would this be a regionalization issue? Is it possible to zap regionalization, or might there be different versions of Business CPS for different parts of the world?

Who knows the insides of the FHSS product line?
