• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was cleaning out old old stock department radio and came across a TK-780H with 2 DB25 connectors in the rear. One DB connector has a pretty lengthy wire on it, I'd say maybe 20 ft or so, and the other is around 8ft in length. Has anyone come across anything like this before? Most of the radios were running a KCH-19 but this one is different. It was the only one like it out of the lot of 25 or so. I haven't had a chance to open it up or download the codeplug. Wanted to post on here to see if anyone has seen a 7/880 like this before.

Perhaps some sort of "Mobile Data" setup, like a concrete truck with a status box attached to the radio; various buttons like En Route, On Site, Waiting to unload, Unloaded, En Route to Plant, etc, Also with GPS receiver interface.

Open it up and tell us what internal connectors they are attached to ?

Interestingly enough, the connectors are labeled Kenwood so it seems to be OEM. If anyone would like photos of a different angle, let me know!

The longer DB 25 cable has a purple, orange, green, yellow and white wire going to CN3, blue and brown going to CN2, black and red going to CN3. (the purple and yellow wires have been cut)

The shorter DB25 has a fat black wire soldered to pad RD1, blue to TD1, and a skinny black to the E pad.

Looks like a KCT-29.

From the service manual:
The KCT-29 connection cable kit is used to connect the TK-x80 transceiver to the KPG-1A Modem GPS receiver or the KPG-1B Modem GPS Controller.

Yes as I was looking through the service manual I figured that it would make sense that the one is a KCT-29. That would lead me to believe that this may have been from the bus company as I have found a KGP-1A a long while back while when gutting one of their busses.

While also looking through the service manual, RD1 and TD1 are serial in and out while E is earth or ground. I imagine this would be for the GPS data as well as there is no PTT trigger on this 2nd DB25. Interesting to see an old radio doing data work.

I guess I answered my own question after looking through the service manual long enough. Dang kids postin before they google!
