Durham Fire Encryption?

Probably just like everything else. Just one more agency to add to that list. I saw that on the news and thought the same thing.

So all the burglars have to do is hang around close by the fire station and wait to hear the sirens when dispatched to a call, and then make their move. Cameras are no longer a deterrent it seems.

As a clarification from WRAL, while encryption is one option, at this time they are dispatching more on CAD and pagers rather than voice dispatch. Hopefully, someone in the area who is more knowledgeable with radio options in Durham will see this thread and respond.

I think WRAL was referencing the online scanner feed for Durham, not encryption. A post by Professional Firefighters of Durham mentions their executive board temporarily turned off the feed, which I assume they host. This was based on information that thieves might be using the scanner apps to find out when firefighters were out of the station on calls.
