Ahh OK so how could I use this to connect to a local linked dmr repeater? It would seem you would have to connect to the repeater through the net some how

The local repeater would have to have access to Talk Group 4639 on the c-Bridge (Motorola MotoTRBO repeaters) it's connected to, and the users would have to have that group programmed in their radios; it's somewhat easier on the Hytera side, as that group is already available to them.

restricted internet connection

OK, cool. Glad to know I'm not the only one that wants to get one to try. I have only seen what I think is preliminary software demos, but that was on some old YouTube videos. I have to believe they had made improvements since the initial release.

At the NASA facility I work at, we have a small club and were lucky enough to get a couple of Moto XPR8400 repeaters funded for our use. I actually just ordered mixed-mode firmware upgrades this week for them. Our club is somewhat relaxed and many of the guys are just not that into running Trbo. Some are, but they are worried that they have to go out any buy new radios instead of using their $35 Bowlfunks (I know, we don't need to have that debate here!). I have many convinced that they can pick up a Hytera/TYT for around $150 and they are liking that idea. As a former Moto tech, P25 is my first go-to, but of course I won't get anyone on board that boat because they are already grumbling about $150 for a radio. I think DMR is our best shot.

I'm explaining all of this because I would like to put the XPR8400 on DMR-MARC, but our IT restrictions at NASA are let's say, just under Stalinistic. It's going to be very hard to get it on the network, just to get the data outside of the gate. I'm thinking about some kind of of-facility control station that can access to the repeater and then pipe that to DMR-MARC or if that isn't an option, one of the other DMR networks.

We have a member right now willing to give us a VHF Fusion repeater and I'm ok with having the repeater, but I am not willing to go to the membership and ask them to buy yet another fragmented digital mode (ie. DStar, Fusion, ect). I want to at least stick with an industry standard and DMR looks the way to go.

Dear Jason,

our county allowed us to share their communication tower and facilities for our D-Star repeater station. However, due to security concerns not the internet connection. We use an Asus router and a T-Mobile LTE stick to connect the PC that runs the G4KLX software.

This might be an approach for your DMR setup as well.

Uli

The order from Wireless Holdings has arrived so it is time to roll up the sleeves and have some fun.

Ah, that's exciting! I placed my order last week. I wonder how behind my order is. They sent out an email last week showing the bare PCB's to assemble on site, so they must have been able to turn them around quickly. Maybe mine is waiting for me when I get home :)

My order number was 130 and I ordered on 10OCT.

Plan on using it for all protocols supported.

Just ordered mine as well! Any ideas what of the few US reflectors we should be using for DMR to have the most contact chances?

Edit - I think I saw a blog from an Austrian or German ham that said it uses TG9 on TS2, but there is nothing in the PDF manual for the devices that clarifies that...

Just got my shipping confirmation this morning :)

I'm also curious about the DMR networks associated. They show DMR+, but I have no idea what that network entails. Is it strictly a network setup for similar IP interfaces? I know it's not tied to DMR-MARC, which is really disappointing, but I understand why since it would eat up C-Bridge licenses.

Either way, it will be fun to get on DMR+ with the other DV4 Mini users. I'll just keep one of my DMR portables with me around the house. 50mW isn't much, but should be good enough for around my small house.

I am talking with the PRN network guys and they are hoping to try the DV4 Mini on their test C-Bridge. Not sure it will be something that sticks, but we would at least like to try it. I'm trying to figure out how additional servers can be added to the DV4 Mini software. Either through a config file that is loaded when the program starts up or if it's hard coded.

DMRPlus is a network based around the Hytera DMR repeater and its associated networking technology. It is possible to bridge between that network and DMR-MARC, but that is currently limited to one talk group used out in California at the moment.

It just works

MIniDV4 up and running last night on Win7 and pretty amazing to see four protocol selections available for the edge network!

minidv app uses CCS/DMR-MARC RID for authentication of licensing and once I configured my home network static IP, connections to the reflectors became available.

What is cool are multiple instances of the environment and appliances may be spawned on the same host computer.

It runs without much overhead on a X79-4930K and I will try it on a Core 2 Duo penryn and Pi 2 B this weekend.

WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR $129?!??!?!?!!!!!!?

Make it so you can link a few of them together via IP on your own network and I'll pull out my credit card right now.

I've got a couple of questions that I'm hoping someone has figured out by now:

1. Is there any way to link these together, or must everything go through a reflector?
2. Is there any mechanism for someone to put up their own private/closed reflector?

I've played with the software (don't have mine yet), and I don't see any way to enter reflector information manually, or connect to another DV4Mini, so I'm guessing no to both. This seriously limits how useful this device is to me.

They are RF modems that encapsulate voice/data frames into IP packets. The current application provided for these use CCS7 and authenticates the user by RID registration through DMR-MARC and CCS which synchronize their call sign databases.

With a different application that wraps the voice/data frames into IP packets and creates a transport layer between the two hosts, there is no reason that cannot be accomplished.

No doubt that will be coded by someone for this device by developers who have an interest.

There is a developers library in C++ released under GPL 3.00 for the DV 4 mini so who knows what will be cooked up for grins and giggles!

I just saw another video from a UK ham that has one & filmed the software & config setup:

CC = 1
TG = 9
TS = 2

See you guys on the reflectors!

For those who already have one. Are you finding that you need to go through the calibration process to get a decent decode of DMR?

My DV4 Mini came in yesterday. I had a fiddle with it a bit, as my first install didn't want to install/load the MSVCP.dll file. I ended up downloading the C++ distributables from Microsoft and manually installing them. That fixed it.

Second, I had to play with the offset a bit. I found the -200 Hz setting seems to be right on. The biggest pain was figuring out what talkgroups and timeslots were being used for the DMR+ network. I finally figured out the magic combination. For DMR+ (at least in the USA), reflector #4639 seems the best and you use talkgroup 9 on timeslot 2. Originally I was on timeslot 1 because I read on a webpage somewhere that was the correct timeslot. I could hear plenty of traffic, but apparently no one was hearing me. A little more Google searching turned up timeslot 2 was the correct one. Once I made that change, I could actually get people to hear me.

I have it at work with me today and I was able to get it set up on my work computer, so I'll let it go all day and see how it does.

Nice to hear that it's working for you once you got the right libraries installed and on the right talk group. Also, jusy for general information: any users on reflector 4639 will also be heard and able to communicate with DMR-MARC users in California since CalDMR set up talk group 4639 to enable cross network communication.

I'm trying to use the same settings as KE4NYV, and I hear people on Nationwide, but when I try and TX, I see this in my window:

00:54:34,001 (1078): DMR ... SYNC missing: 1
00:54:36,158 (2157): DMR ... SYNC missing: 1
00:54:36,517 (0359): DMR ... SYNC missing: 2

And then when I unkey:

00:54:36,517 (0000): DMR ... END transmission
00:54:37,345 (0828): DMR ... Send END Header
00:54:37,345 (0000): DMR ... DV4 RX-ID:#3134094/W2SJW
00:55:47,814 (10469): DMR ... from Reflector: RX SLOT=2 GROUP=4639 REF_ID=#3137153/KK4CMC

No one seems to hear my replies. Any ideas?

Since making that post, I updated to the latest firmware and software. Since then, it appears I'm not being heard on Nationwide. I can still monitor and hear everyone else talking, but it seems I'm not being heard. I can't recall if I got the same SYNC Missing errors.

Maybe those of us with DV4 Minis should set up a time in the next day or so to get on and voice check each other.
