Is the Denver and Aurora system prone being scratchy or should I be trying to tune them in better? It seems like when I am in those cites the channels are scratchy but when I am about 5-10 miles away from them things are clearer. Teach me oh wise ones. Pro-106.

Can't speak for the 106 (unfortunately) but when I am in Aurora (every weekend) both Denver and Aurora come in loud and clear with full signal strength. I use a 800mhz Radio Shack rubber ducky, which I suggest getting if you don't have one. If that doesnt help maybe someone else has a better answer?

Some of Aurora is Pro voice, not sure if that would make it scratchy. When I lived with my parents Aurora came in very scratchy and they are Belleview and Frankland.

On a related note, is there such thing as "too" good a signal?

Being ProVoice won't make it scratchy, it will make it unmonitorable. I have a hard time getting Aurora here in Arvada, and Denver is pretty weak as well. Since they moved off of the Green Mountain site, Denver seems to have less range.

You will get the scratchy syndrome due to both systems being simulcast with multiple sites on the same frequency. It happens with the real radios as well. Usually when you are on the edge or where the signals overlap. It's the nature of their radio systems and the laws of physics. I deal with this big time up here when listening to those systems.

Denver's old primary (and backup site) is on Mt Morrison. Lakewood's primary is on Green Mtn.

Until one of the experts chimes in, lets check some simple troubleshooting items. It might help if you tell us what kind of antenna you're using, where exactly you're trying to listen (is it more than one location?), and if you have the 2 systems programmed in exactly as indicated in the rr database? If you have more than one antenna, try them all and in more than one location. Make sure your settings on the scanner are as follows: FM Mode and Edacs Wide.

Edit: Guess one of the experts beat me to the punch.

Thanks guys. I did import this from the RR DB and will make sure that it is set as you have said. I am using the RS 800mhz rubber duck not the stock antenna that comes with the Pro-106. I am monitoring from Castle Rock to the Denver county jail or Smith and Havana. It seems just after Arapahoe south the signal gets crystal clear. The "overlap of the simulcast signals" would help to explain it.
