The city is rolling out 15 new fully equipped (minus final software) 2006 Crown Victorias. The cars will have new radios and new computers but will use the existing MDT System. The cars are a test and will be monitored closely for any necessary modifications as part of the city's quality control plan during implementation. They want the final product to be right the first time if they can.
The city has about 75 new cars ready to go with 100+ ready within the month. That being said keep your eyes open and ready for the new gear.

All sightings thus far have been the officers that have been put on special assignment to go test drive the car to get a feel for the final implementation phase. Two officers that I know went yesterday and took their turn at the test drive. They said that the new CVPI's are very sweet :).

Down side. The links are a step closer to coming down.

I am referring to Oklahoma City's implementation of cars that are eqipped with the new technology items: Radio, Laptop, and new console design. Same car type though.

New console design? Is this yet a newer design than existing cars with an MDC, or just a newer design than cars with an MDT?

Whole new console!!!
The console is actually at an angle from the floor up to the base of the A/C controls. The center console area is open with cup holders. The LCD screen will be mounted on top of the console with it covering the A/C and stereo. The screen tilts away so that you can access the A/C. The console is a very efficient user of space. It actually makes the car feel a little more spacious. This is because the old MDT mount will no longer exist as it takes up a lot of space. It is replaced by the new console. Here is a website with pics of what the new consoles will be like:
http://www.havis.com/consolidator_consoles/angledseries.html

That is provided they went with what they talked about.

I was going to ask you what kind of consoles, but I see you said Havis. I've always been a big fan of Havis-Shields products. More than likely that's what'll be used in the next couple of installs on the project list.

Yeah I am not sure if that is the exact model but that is what they look like. Don't know if they found a less expensive version. You know, a lowest bidder type of thing.

Meh... "lowest bidder" usually means "lowest quality"... I'd rather spend a few extra bucks up-front and get something that'll last disproportionately longer than save those few bucks right-away. Then again, I'm not a politician... :-D

I've been a Havis customer for years... high-quality products have only gotten better with time, custom project ability seems to have dropped off some, which can be expected with company growth. One drawback of Havis: order fulfillment takes a LONG time... I think they don't stock much, so they build to-order and tend to get backed up. I ordered an equipment bracket 5-6 weeks ago for an install I'm working on that should get here today or tomorrow... that's a long time to wait. But not long enough to make me look elsewhere (yet).

For the record, the consoles look a lot like the Havis-Shield model depicted in the provided link, however, they are actually Jotto Desk consoles with a few customizations for OKC.

Next time I am downtown I will try to get some pictures of a completed install inside and the tray in the truck.

Man..doesn't look like there is any extra room for extra radio equipment in that console.

Does anyone know what model was in the mobile?

EDIT -->

Looked at some pictures of EDACS mobiles and determined it to be an EDACS Orion mobile. Still not sure what the exact model is if there is one.

Next to a scanner...
Pretty sure they are all M7100's

All the PD/FD portables I have seen are P7100's.

The City Service people seem to have 500M's and 300P's (analog only).
