The History Channel had an EXCELLENT documentary on the Fitz not too long ago. Supposedly McSorely was a hell of a skipper and the crew reportedly worked well together and respected him. I remember doing a story in school for a current events project on the sinking and I am still pretty big into the history of the ship to this day. Nice to see that they are still carrying on the memorial every year.

Have they ever found the wreakage? I mean they found the Titanic.

Yup they found everything..! My friend [ Robert E. Lee - true name, fantastic and very knowledgeable man ] who has since passed away was the 1st curator of the Detroit Marine Museum... He published a small book on the sinking giving details of where it was found etc. I have a copy but forgot to ask him to sign it [ Duh ]..!

He always gave a talk at the Marine Church in Detroit each year on the anniversary of the sinking ceremonies and his wife did the same until she passed away also..!

A little known item of this curator was - He was the ONLY person ever allowed to live on Belle Isle in Detroit where the museum is located during his tenure. They had an apartment upstairs from the museum until he retired...
