Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello everyone,

I have a midland 1001z installed in my Wrangler, 3ft Everhardt antenna, yadda yadda, and as of late, for some reason, my CB Radio just decides when it wants to receive power. Some days it'll switch on just fine, others it won't turn on at all. I don't know how or why it's doing this, but I can't see my wiring to be at fault, my fuse is good, ground is good. I've been thinking that it might be something with the radio itself, but I'm not an expert by any means, so I was hoping maybe somebody has experienced this problem and has a possible fix to it. If need be, I can get it replaced as it is still under warranty, but it would be easier if I could fix it myself.

Thanks

Sounds like you have an 'intermittent' somewhere. Just to make sure, check your primary power wiring again. Wiggle stuff, see what happens. An intermittent switch is also a possibility. So eliminating the 'other' possibilities can indicate if that switch is the problem or not. It also is a pretty good reason for sending the thing back for warranty work.

It could be almost anything. Double check your fuse holder and clean the contacts to make sure there isn't any corrosion on them. Replace the fuse (new one with the same rating), I have seen fuses develop cracks in the fuse element that are intermittent. If you have a multimeter then check the voltage at the radio's power connector when the radio won't turn on, if you have voltage then the problem is with the radio. Don't ignore the radio's ground.

Intermittent problems like yours can be VERY hard to find. Good luck.

I don't understand what Receive Power means.

Are you saying that the radio works all the time, but at times there is no audio on your radio or are you saying that sometimes it turns on and you can hear people talking and other times it won't turn on - hence the lights won't burn in the display?

As others' have posted,

but wiggle the wires around, slowly turn the on/off switch on and slight wiggle it, etc. Good luck in trying to find the problem, it can get rather frustrating. And if you've eliminated all avenue and the problem still there, then LtDoc's advice is last action you have, return it to the dealer. Good luck sir...

Sometimes it'll turn on, everything works, other times there's nothing, it's dead.

I'll double check all of the connections, the fuse, etc. I've only had the radio since January, so it really shouldn't be acting up.

Thanks
