Hello fellow Scan Masters!

I have recently purchased a Uniden BCD 396xt TrunktrackerIV scanner.
I have everything programed and I am picking up most everything I am interested in getting.

I do need help understanding how to tune into and listen to radio systems like the ones they use at our standard elementary and high schools here in California.

I live very close to my kids elementary school. The other day my kids told me they did a lock down drill!
Teachers locked all the doors, huddled the kids to a corner of the room, as the vice principal ran around the school banging on classroom door like a bad guy.

I sure would have liked to have monitored that event on my scanner, as well as, other problems that may be occurring at the local elementary school.

Can someone please tell me if it is possible with my scanner to program or search and find my local elementary schools radio frequencies?

Can someone please help with how to listen to what is going on at my kids elementary school?
Hopefully, by listening to the schools radio system on my Uniden TrunktrackerIV scanner.

It's like real estate, location, location, location.

We have no idea where you are, your location is just shows as No Town, CALi, and that doesn't do us much good. The school district or school name might help, too.

There is no "standard" system amongst the schools. Some districts have standardized, however there isn't any sort of state standard. Frequency and emission types can vary.

Not sure what your city uses for schools but it's handy to check the business freq radios that kenwood icom and moto put out. Many schools utilize those with either a company name licenses for it that programs them or they do the school itself. May check principal name too in fcc db sometimes it's under a person's name like that or a administration person. If the pd uses vhf usually the radios schools use follow band suit to have a primary channel of the pd programmed in so might give a clue. If they are trs possible there on the trs.

I did an FCC license search, and Clovis Unified School district has a number of licenses.

451.475 (license WQFZ511) Repeater. Location shown as 1070 East Teague, Fresno. This appears to be located at Maple Creek Elementary school. I'd give this one a try first.

The rest of these are all in the FCC data base shown as belonging to Clovis Unified School district. They may or may not be in use at your sons elementary school. Could be that they use the lower power non repeater channels for communication just within the school.

Try these frequencie:
154.600 (License KA78808) Location is shown as "statewide", which just means they can transmit with the radios anywhere in the state.

452.275 and 452.450 (License KNFX501) This is a repeater system with 2 channels. Repeater is shown as located at 1490 Herndon Ave. Clovis.

461.075 (license KNNF364) Another repeater, same address as above.

453.900 (license WNHC782) Another repeater, location shown as 5545 E Herndon Ave Clovis. This is listed as the Clovis Unified School District Police dispatch.

462.125 (license WPLJ802) Another repeater, location shown as 1490 Herndon Ave, Clovis

155.280 (license WPNS283) Not a repeater. Location shown as 1490 Herndon and 40km radius around that.

451.225 (license WPPW840) Repeater. Location shown as 1055 Fowler Ave, Clovis

461.825 (license WQHB803) Repeater. Location shown as 2770 E. International, Fresno.

451.1875 and 456.1875 (WQTL367) Not a repeater. Low power radios, short distance. Location listed as 5km around 36-51-46.4 N, 119-45-56.3 W

451.450 (license WQUF338) Repeater. location shown as 2940 N. Leonard Ave. Clovis.

There are a bunch of simplex channels too, low power radios, so you won't hear them very far:

000461.38750000
000461.41250000
000462.01250000
000462.88750000

000468.28750000
000468.73750000
000462.18750000
000462.36250000
000462.43750000

000462.21250000
000462.26250000
000462.31250000
000462.38750000
000467.38750000
000452.53750000

000452.56250000
000452.57500000
000456.43750000

You'll need to plug these into your scanner and see what you hear.

((THANKS))

I also went on a FCC search after I read your original post . I too found a bunch of license codes for Clovis Unified.

I was going to check each one until I pinpointed the coordinates of the school. But, You saved me some time. Your good deed is appreciated. I will program in these frequencies and see what I find.

In the meanwhile, I also found some other frequencies of interest, " like the local mall security frequencies." (that should be fun!)

Thanks again, I will keep playing, Plan-A-Radio

NOPE.......Still can't find

will after researching the frequencies you listed, I was excited when I saw the Teague location because that is the street the the Elementary school is on.

Maple and Teague to be exact.

Unfortunately, It is my belief that most of those frequencies are attached to Clovis West High school which is also down the street from my house.

I will keep searching.

Just thought it would be nice to know what is going on at my kids school.

Thanks for the help, Keep contributing if possible

Glad I could help.

An elementary school is usually small enough that they don't need to use a repeater. Usually a single simplex (radio to radio) channel will work just fine.

You likely won't hear much on them, occasional chatter, but that's about it. At my sons school, the teachers don't have radios, only key administrators.

Good luck!
