Anyone know how to enable the internal speaker inside the scanner when the external speaker jack is being used? I remember in the old CB radio days I used to go into the radio & remove a solder joint on the jack, thereby allowing the audio signal both paths, but these scanners seem far more complicated than an old CB radio, hate to have to open one up. Any suggestions?

You can't, but you can use a stereo cable splitter and connect 2 external lines/devices.

You should be able to jump across the internal speaker disable jumper in the jack.

I am still confused after two years. Can any amplified speaker be used with the 536HP if a stereo or mono cable is used. Already blew out one 536 speaker when ran a stereo cable from ext speaker jack to my computer sound card. Have read the long posts about this issue back in Feb 2014 and am still confused. I use passive speakers but am afraid of using any type of amplified speaker, even the one from Uniden.

You really should not use an amplified speaker with any device's Ext Sp(eaker) output, as that output is already amplified. Use either the low-level headphone output, Line out (if the device has one) or, if you must use a Ext. Sp. output, use a speaker matching transformer so that the Ext. Sp. output has a proper load.

It is not a good idea to run 2 speakers at the same time. Reason being is that the audio output circuit was designed for a certain load. By lowering the speaker load resistance, you could cause damage to the audio amplifier that was not designed to drive such a load.

Yes you could drive an external powered or amplified speaker, but you would have to couple it such as not to load down the source. You would probably need to insert a pad to drop the audio level going to the powered speaker so you don't distort the audio by over driving it.

Thanks Paul. I did not even stop to think that the ext sp is already amplified. Will from now on follow your advice.
