Encrypted WPD and DSP and scanner recommendations

HI. is it illegal to monitor encrypted transmissions or what. also, what is the best scanner youd recommend to monitor DSP and WPD 800 MHz? do the scanners have a way of showing what you are listening to like it would say EMSOPS1 or WER1, instead of 10759 or something like that. Pretty much the best digital scanner out there.

The best scanner is the one you can afford. The BCD396T, BCD996T, BC296D, BC796D, PRO 96 or PRO 2096 will do the job.

Yes, the Uniden models have 16 Character Text Tags, the GRE/RadioShack models have 12 Character Text Tags. You can toggle between TGID and Text tag depending on model. See the Wiki for specific model info. Btw, DSP and WPD are NOT encrypted, just Digital using P25 Voice.
