*cue people crying about how encryption is bad*

With all the benefits of encryption? They're already NAC so few people are just casually listening. Encrypting is an expensive proposition. I don't blame Bergen County residents for saying their taxes are high enough. Ridgewood lost the Valley Hospital. Maybe this isn't the best use of money.

Encryption has nothing to do with taxes or money. For almost every radio manufacturer encryption is free

"For almost every radio manufacturer encryption is free" Does that mean that it is "free" for the manufacturer and then their dealers can subsequently pass on an encryption cost to their customers? Someone's obviously making out like a bandit. Lol!

Motorola radios are ordered with ADP from the factory, single key AES is free from Harris.

List price for ADP in Viking radios is $0.00. You'll usually see 15-30% off list; 15-30% off of free is...let me do the math...still free. If your dealer is marking up from list, find a new dealer. Enter the key variable in your template, strap talkgroup, write to radio, done.

Sure it does. Those P25 harris radios are way more expensive than a motorola VHF. Radio techs are going to come out and reprogram. You need to work out your mutual aid and interops. All of that costs money even if checking a box is free.

You're comparing apples to oranges. Sure the radios might cost 3k, but the encryption has nothing to do with the final cost of them. Like I said, AES single key is free for Harris. And chances are those radios were brought with some form of grant.
