There are several UNID TGs within the "range" of East Providence, that are all fully encrypted. None of us have been able to actually figure out what they are. I suspect the FD has encrypted TGs as well.
(1868, 1871, 1876, 1877, 1880, 1884, 1889)
I figured out the "PD Channel 12" detective TG 1883, when I Heard a unit ask another "to switch to detectives channel 12" and the TG showed up. (Fully encrypted)

So I talked to the Mayor of East Providence today & asked about the police going 100% encrypted. He was aware of it & had his communication aide (Matt Poddack, formerly of CH 12) contact the police chief to get more facts. The chief said that they had to comply with federal & state safety & security measures & from the sound of it, possibly every police department in the state will need to be encrypted soon. He then said that converting EPPD has been two years in the making. The mayor said that every mobile & portable unit needed to be reprogrammed individually by the state. I think he said the RI Emergency Mgmt was doing the work.

Frankie811 you are correct all of East Providence police and Detective frequencies are now 100% encrypted which totally sucks I have many friends and family in EP What are they trying to hide from the general public They claim that it is for their safety but I disagree They want to eliminate the so called ambulance chasers and the don't want criminals with scanners knowing the police are coming

Eliminating the "so called ambulance chasers" and preventing criminals from hearing police movements is part of their safety.

That may be true but that doesn't make it suck any less You pay 700 hundred dollars for a top of the line scanner and you can't listen to your local police anymore 🤬
Well, there's always the EPFD & Seekonk PD. Also, Providence, Pawtucket & state police. I have excellent reception @ RISCON on my BCD996P2, and just ordered a mobile antenna to use indoors to improve analog reception on my BCD260DN. Mainly marine, railroad & FRS/GMRS/MURS bands. My Eton Elite 750 has perfect aircraft reception, the best of any receiver that I've ever owned. It'll be interesting to see how Uniden's future national sales will be affected.

So you find something else to listen to. EPFD is still in the clear. I have five scanners on my base station alone, and my city is encrypted. I just monitor other departments that I want to listen to. That SDS will be very nice for you when Mass converts to P25P2 in 2035.

When you say Mass, do you mean the entire state?

I mean the State Police Radio System (CoMIRS) conversion from analog to digital.
