• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Hi,
My evx5400 no longer does wide band on the amateur 70cm band. Does digital fine.I was using the export software from the Vertex site.My radio has cpu/dsp 1.22/1.12 and software is CE142 ver 1.14. Did updating firmware and using new software prevent me from using 25khz? If so,is it possible to go back to an older firmware version and older software? Any ideas?
Thanks,
Bill

EVX 5400 Firmware

Installed older firmware ver V01-19-01-10 and wideband analog was restored. Any 5400 users beware that
you will lose wideband analog if you upgrade to a higher firmware. Always save the older versions of firmware and software.!!!!

Looking on Vertex online, there are separate versions of CE142. One for wideband, one restricted to narrow. Did you try the wideband one?

Hello Bill, First off you might of seen posts of mine before. I do exclusive testing on Evx-5400 VHF Radios only! and report errors found to VS.

This is the problem, You had firmware 122.112 and International programming software and were still narrow band with this firmware this is why.

Install the 122.112 firmware, Then run (Wide_Band_Recovery_Tool_1_02) which can be had at VS if you have a account. It is NOT found where the programming software is!!.

Now as per this message use the newest version of the INTERNATIONAL programming software and you'll be Narrow/Wide band where ever you want.

WARNING: DO NOT INSTALL: 124.113 firmware, I made them pull it from there web site as it disables ANALOG receive!!, Vertex Standard even with critical problems lags in fixes that Motorola should be ashamed of themselves. Even if you don't use ANALOG you should NOT use this firmware. It should no longer be able to be downloaded. If you or anyone else DID download and install it before it was pulled re-flash your radio with 122.112 firmware. My own warning about Vertex Standard is all firmware comes from Japan and is not beta tested in Japan or the USA. You are the guinea pig.

It also does NOT matter if your 5400 is VHF/UHF

By the way you aren't going to get 25Khz on wide more like 5Khz in W5 mode, 25Khz isn't gonna happen.

W5" (Wide 5k)
Max. Deviation = ±5 kHz

Option
Functionality
Limitation

"W5" (Wide 5k)
Max. Deviation = ±5 kHz
In USA, if frequency is set to 150-174MHz or 421-470MHz, it is limited to "N" by FCC rule.

"W4" (Wide 4k)
Max. Deviation = ±4 kHz

"N" (Narrow)
Max. Deviation = ±2.5 kHz
