To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I was trying to run my G5 in to a few different bluetooth speakers....and my car....apparently I read on here that the Unication Gx pagers are not compatible
with any older bluetooth technology. The radio finds and connects to both my bluetooth speakers with no problem....only there is NO AUDIO. So would anybody here know of a modern bluetooth speaker that would work with these pagers? I have been taking the G5 to work and my work partner likes listening to it. I clip it to dash of the van and reception perfect all day everywhere. But it needs amplification.....we tried bluetoothing to the van but it couldnt find the radio....so we figured an external bluetooth speaker would solve the problem.

I've got a couple I can try over the weekend maybe. I've never tried to hook it up to an external speaker, only ear buds. I can tell you from that it's gonna take come amplification to hear the thing. I honestly had problems hearing it in a noisy environment with my ear buds I had paired to it.

OK I happened to find an "ANKER" model "A3102 bluetooth speaker that works....It's loud enuff to use in van at work.....The speaker is an older model but it works....no noise, pops, squeals, burps....The radio has to be set with Bluetooth ON and earbuds ON in order for it to work....I guess it considers external speakers as earbuds.

That's the speaker I have. I can confirm it works well.

NoxGear 39g works
I have a "new" and "old" version of the NoxGear. They both work well with the G4/G5. However the "new", current version of the 39g does not have a 1/8" audio jack. I was bummed. It does have a USB C charge port, for charging only. The "old" one had the audio jack but a USB micro jack for charging. I miss that jack.

This BT speaker works well with my older G5 and G3... very loud, and distortion-free for noisy environments. $22!

This speaker I ordered came in yesterday and it works fine except for an annoying "POP" sound right before a transmission comes thru on the G5. It only does it when transmission starts. Is there a setting in radio or something I can do to get rid of that pop noise?

I’ve never noticed a “Pop” on mine… let me play with the settings to see if I can replicate the issue… I’ll come back to you soonest.

Ok thanks.....it's weird and only does it as soon as transmission starts....I adjusted auto squelch but no good.

I've been playing with the settings on my G5 & G3, but can't seem to get the any regular popping noise before the transmissions.

Once in awhile, I do get a small pop, when the volume is maxed on the G5 and maxed on the on the speaker--but only after there hasn't been a transmission for some time--almost like an amp turning on. But it's not a regular thing. Admittedly, my pagers are both long in the tooth, and most likely have an older firmware version (1.33). I also use a much older version of the PPS. So cannot say with certainty if firmware or PPS updates are the issue, but I rather doubt it, since I think someone would have mentioned it by now.

I did play with the usual suspect settings: I tried different settings of voice buffering and voice buffering prompt tone to no avail. (I always leave voice buffering off, despite the warning message in the PPS). I also tried changing the audio squelch from low to high, but that didn't seem to have any effect. (I switched that back to low which is the default.)

One thing I would suggest is that perhaps you may want to reset the speaker... instructions on how to do that below. Of course, afterwards, you'll have to pair the G5 with the speaker, again.

Hope some of these ideas help--I feel somewhat responsible since this speaker was my suggestion.Screenshot 2025-04-27 113117.jpg

Have no idea if it's related or not but I get a small "pop" when it's in the amplified charging base. I've never looked into it.

Its definitely a compatibility issue...I had problem with some different models of "ANKER" bluetooth speakers. I have 4 different models and only 1 works with no issue. The other ones connect but no audio. I think its something in the radio. Don't worry! Its always a risk with bluetooth. I dont think science has perfected it enuff and still buggy. But I really wonder why this G5 is so hard to connect, even my work vehicle and my own 2 cars.....the G5 doesnt even show up on the bluetooth search in the cars. Why does the G5 work with some speakers and not others? Anyway it's OK my wife returned it at the amazon place at mall....I told her it was unusable with that pop sound.
