To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, friends.
I bought an external speaker to connect my RT3S in the car, but the audio quality is quite poor.
I plan to replace the speaker in the box, but since I have no knowledge of electronics, I have a question. The speaker in the box has an impedance of 8 ohms. Is this compatible with the audio output of the 2.5mm pin on the radio? Could I, or should I, buy a speaker with a different impedance?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Issue is likely that the radio does not have enough power to drive that speaker. Common issue with hand held radios.

You'd want to use an amplified external speaker, or, upgrade to a mobile radio. Replacing the speaker in the housing isn't going to fix the issue.

Yes, it does work, and even at a good volume.
The problem is the quality of the audio it produces.
I thought about using a higher-quality speaker, but then I started wondering about impedance.
I also considered buying a small 5V amplifier to place inside the box.

I didn't consider a mobile radio because I use the RT3S to entertain myself by listening to public service transmissions while driving.

OK, might be that the little amp in that radio is just working too hard. Not sure a different speaker will fix that, but it's something you could try. Usually the internal amplifiers are capable of a watt or so at the most. Usually much less.

I think I'll go with the idea of adding a small speaker box with a mini amplifier powered by the car's USB port.
Thank you for the help, mmckenna!

Wow, cool speakers!
But... I'm Brazilian, and besides the shipping costs, our corrupt and wasteful government taxes imports over $50 at 92%.
Still, I appreciate the suggestion!
