No, not a typo. I scored another battery when Uniden replaced my scanner for two trips on the cold solder issue. The third battery is still in the box. I know LiOn batteries can be finicky. Should I take it out of the box and actually put it in the rotation for safety reasons?

I wouldn't worry about it randomly exploding. But it might last longer if you use/charge it occasionally.

The LIon batteries for my Thales 25 recommend charging at least every three months. The Thales was used in the forest fire service and would sometimes see little or no use for extended periods.

I've had better luck with longer battery life if I actually cycle them--down to 1/3 of it's rated voltage (or when the device they're in indicate low battery) then fully charge them...

I agree with the 1/3 discharge if you need to store. Best approach in my opinion is to use the battery in your normal cycle.
