• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Wondering if this bracket mount was more intended for mounting lighting or sand dune flags.
Great point. He did link to the product, and it is marketed as a CB mount, but it’s from a company that mostly lighting and accessory brackets and mounts, not a radio shop. I have a feeling it could be as simple as someone going, “Hey, don’t CBs use a 3/8” mount? Sell it as a CB mount!” And the other dude said, “Hey, yeah, you’re right! Done!”

It also could’ve just been a bad production run where someone got confused and used a 3/8” bit instead of a 1/2” bit in the jig, and no one noticed. Assuming it’s not all CNC/laser/water cut. The web page doesn’t provide any specs at all, so who knows?

By the way, I just called them and left a message to let them know they need to have a 1/2” mounting hole instead of 3/8”. They’re near me in Kerrville, TX, as it turns out.

I don't mean to resurrect a dead thread, but I'm curious if you ever got this figured out. I'm having some slightly high SWR issues on my mobile as well, and it seems like we may have similar problems. Also, if you haven't already tried it (hopefully I didn't miss somebody else recommending this), try removing the spring and seeing if that helps.

Hi, hope I can get some help with a similar issue. Cobra 75, firestik 4' antenna with firering coax. I've tested for continuity and everything is fine EXCEPT when I plug the coax into the CB radio. When I do that I suddenly get a closed circuit with about 4,700 ohms of resistance between the mount and the stud. If I unplug the coax from the CB the resistance goes back to infinity (open circuit). Is that normal? I don't think it is... I'm wondering if this radio is damaged. I purchased it as a used radio via eBay.

I'd really appreciate any help. When I hook everything up my SWR reading is about 2.5 and it fluctuates. I have tried tuning the antenna but no improvement.

The 4,700 ohms is the static drain off resistor in the radio. So that part seems OK.

Did you try a different radio in your setup?

no, I only have this one. So you say the 4.7K ohm reading is normal? Hmmmm I really thought that indicative of an issue with the radio. Ok I will go over everything again and report back. Thanks very much for the quick reply.
