I was one of the many people who struggled with getting the NooElec RTL2832U/R820T getting it to work.
Specifically, getting SDRSharp to enable it as RLT-SDR/ USB Vs RLT-SDR/ TCP. I edited, reinstalled, and struggled. Finally, i went to Nooelec's website, and found the CORRECT install package for this particular dongle. Voila, in less than a minute, i was up and running. I hope this helps anyone in the future.
Here is the location.

this package will get you what you need, but you still need to use zdiag.

I've got the same dongle, have installed the driver via Zadig.

SDR# says "RTL/USB either not connected or its driver is not working properly."

I'm going around and around and tearing my hair out... I've been following directions to the letter, still no joy.

Win XP Pro SP3. Most recent versions of SDR# and Zadig.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

To: KF6hcd, it sounds like you have to shut your computer down with the dongle still in the usb port. Once the computer is off, unplug the dongle for about five seconds, plug it back in and turn your on and it should work fine. That is what I do when I get the same message as you are getting.

Since posting, I have tried using earlier versions of Zadig.

Likewise, moonbounce's suggestion. No joy.

We'll see if the seller answers my inquiry. Maybe a swap-out will do the trick. It's possible that I got a defective unit. I'll update when I know more. Thanks.

Got it to work by fiddling with the zadig and completely uninstalling then re-installing the drivers. For the life of me, I am unable to account for such a difficult install. Will have to update other help forums now.

Does anyone happen to have a link for the xp version of zadig.exe? Luckily I had 2 laptops, the 2nd having Vista on it. Works like a charm, but the xp box is really where I want it to work.

Some minor detail for zadigxp

Here yea go, straight from the maker.

Zadig - USB driver installation made easy

Correct, and make sure you read it well. There are two zadig's 1 is Vista/7/8 the other is zadigxp. Pick the one for the system you run. He shows you how to run zadig. I have to say sometimes in Windows XP SP3 installing 2 dongles with zadig and after rebooting one may not be saved and require anther run of zadigxp. Then you can reboot and it will stick.:)

If you are needing immediate (in a hurry) help join ##rtlsdr on freenode irc. X-chat irc program can get you there. alot of rtl-sdr developers sit in there all day long.

This link is now broken. Anyone know of an updated link to use for this. It sounds like it helped a few people out with installation.

Yes I did :)

Little confused on the zadig issue. Will the installation file take care of Windows 7 and XP installations. From reading the thread it sounded like may or may not.
