Sorry if it has been repeated, I did a search...

Is it possible to swap the face plates of the BCD996T and the BCT15. I was told Uniden sold a BCD996T faceplate, called them to check, turned out that was wrong.

The silver doesn't look great, best option for me would be if I could swap it even with the RH96.

So is it possible? Better yet, has anyone done it? Pics maybe?

I thought they could be interchanged but I dont know for sure...
if you have a silver now you want the BCT15 face not the 996T face.

I have heard/seen pics of someone painting the 996T face black.. and it did look very nice

I also wish the 996 was originally black

Painting the faceplate is probably a better option like torontokris said.

Otherwise, you'll have to do a little surgery to the BC-RH96 faceplate because the earphone hole is block and so is the front comport see image ...

Painting would be a bigger concern because of the exposed ports. It appears as though the covers on the RH96 could pop out, but I haven't dug deep enough into it. I have a BCT15 that could be a donor too, I just don't have a BCD996T yet, I am trying to work out my options.

I would use the RH96 with a BCD396T but I would actually be able to make use of the GPS in CT and while I am in Ohio with the MARCS system. Plus black on green looked really nice in the videos of the 996T during its prototype stage.

He removed the front faceplate, then painted it (to avoid getting paint on the ports/keys/face).

As for torontokris, I did not mentionned that it the first place, but I assumed that taking off the faceplate from the radio to avoid painting the radio was not necessary to mentionned ... correction made.

Hey UPMan,

This question pops up over and over... I too do not like the silver faceplate on the 996T.

Can a 15 faceplate be put on a 996? Just need the plastic surround (not sure what to call that part, for all practical purposes, lets call it the shroud, trimplate, or faceplate.)

If so, can you just provide us the part number needed to order ;-)

And, if the part is not available, could someone look into making it available since there seems to be a demand for this?

Thanks in advance,

Read the sticky "Finding Scanner Parts" and you will find a link to a page where you can request part numbers, etc.

I believe the BCT15 faceplate should fit but the silkprint will be different (as the BCT15 printing below the numbers is different from the 996T - for those func+ numbers.

Will take about 2 hours to do (according to previous posts).

I still suggest painting it.. even just the silver "trim" around the outside (not even where the keys are) will make it look darker. You will be covering over the bearclaw and the "off" but thats it.
