I have a BCD996XT that I have had almost a year. Granted it stays on about 24/7 and I currently have it off at the moment but, within the year I have had it, it has probably only been off a total of 3 weeks all togther over the course of this year. With that said. The top right corner where the Vol, signal meter etc has burned out. The back light still works great though. If it wasn't for the virtual control through ProScan I wouldn't even know what the volume or signal is at. Has anyone else had this happen before with this scanner? I wouldn't think I am the only one with this issue as I am sure a lot of people use this same scanner to host their live feeds where the radio is on 24/7.

It's unusual for the LCD panel to fail. Back lights fail occasionally. Have you tried adjusting the Display Contrast, to see if that helps any?

Has the scanner been exposed to heat? I have a laser rangefinder that was stored in a shed in California during the summer, and the heat turned the entire LCD display into a smeared blur. The liquid crystal stuff appears to have melted or leaked out of whatever was holding it in the numeral segments into a blob trapped between the front and back covers of the display.

I was thinking the same thing. Usually it would be the back lights to go out first. It is just that one corner though. The rest of the LCD screen is fine. I have not tried adjusting the contrast. I will try that this evening. I keep the back lights off on it when I am not around it. So they haven't run nearly as much as the scanner has been on. It only comes on with traffic.

It hasn't been exposed to any heat since I got it. When it first started happening it was sitting on a desk in one of those 4 scanner racks before I moved it to a custom console I built about a month ago.

I adjusted the contrast and it still doesn't make any difference. I think that part of the LCD is burned out. Which is rather disappointed seeing I have only had this scanner for just under a year.

The same has happened to mine also, but it is the lower right corner. It's not entirely gone, just distorted after 15 months. I wonder if this is an easily replaced plug-in panel.

I am curious about that as well if it is easily replaceable. I love the 996XT and it has been a great radio for me. I am little disappointed with the screen fading and distorting in the corner like that with only barely a year of use.
