West Caldwell is on NJICS

5165142dTWCaldwell PD DspWest Caldwell PD Dispatch Law Dispatch

You only need these:

If you have all the other sites loaded you will want to delete them one by one leaving only West Orange Simulcast and Passaic County Simulcast. And at some point you may be able to remove Site 17 if you never hear Fairfield on it. Another note is to make sure you update your database to get the latest data on the scanner. Plus the Favorites don't update on their own. You have to update them as you feel necessary.

yes, I did delete all from favorites except West Orange (I didn't have Passaic County on it). The problem is, I cannot find anything called "Passaic County Simulcast" in the Sentinel program. So, I am obviously missing something. As far as West Caldwell PD, maybe I need to update Sentinel software because it is NOT on NJICS on my software. It is under COUNTY SYSTEMS in ESSEX. I think I am just going to give up because I really don't know much and I don't want to waste any more of your time. I really appreciate the assistance!

Maybe I installed the wrong Sentinel? I installed what appears to be BCDx36HPSentinel (what desktop icon says). It was what I was told is needed for my SDS100. I just uninstalled and reinstalled it. WCPD still appears in ESSEX under COUNTY not STATEWIDE - - NJICS

Start Over...

1. Update the Sentinel database... Update>>Update Master Database

2. Select Tools>>Target Model>>SDS100

3. Create a new NJICS Favorite that includes Essex>>Fairfield

4. Delete all Sites except Site 1 West Orange Simulcast and Site 17 Passaic Simulcast

5. Load this to the scanner and make sure Monitor is On for this Favorite

Yeah they may not affiliate to 17. Worth a shot though as they are probably getting stronger signal from Garret Mountain than WO.

OK. So, I did all of that and now West Caldwell PD is in NJICS and I do see a Passaic County Simulcast. I deleted everything and then added Passaic Simulcast and readded West Orange Simulcast. So, I just have those two simulcasts and the 2 Fairfield frequencies on scanner. I will monitor it for a while and advise.

OK..so the latest is that Fairfield is not coming through. They just toned out the FD; so, there should of at least been a dispatch of 2 patrol units from the police department and nothing came through. I think I am officially going to give up guys...I appreciate it!

That SUX. Only other advice is...

1. Remove Site 17 Passaic so you only have Site 1 West Orange.

2. Load all of Essex and Passaic so you have many more opportunities for transmissions.

3. Move around your home to see if you have better signal in some areas over others.

4. Purchase a better portable antenna or consider an outside antenna. (sure it makes the SDS100 more an SDS200 (not portable) but you may be out of options within your home.)

I just want to see if there is something wrong with the actual scanning of Fairfield. Here are two photos. The one photo is what is displayed when scanning and the other is showing what is displayed when the NJICS gets scanned. Fairfield does not show up as being scanned at all...it just stays blank with "west orange simulcast" visible. Not sure what is going on. I am getting transmissions from departments way further away then Fairfield (I live in Fairifeld HAHAH) so not sure if it 's an antenna issue. Like I said, I am a digital scanner novice so I really don't know much about it.

Well Roseland is VHF... Old fashioned Analog. The SDS100 antenna is all band or AKA no band is good. You many need an Antenna that is more tuned to 700/800 Mhz where NJICS is.

I would...

1. Remove Site 17 Passaic so you only have Site 1 West Orange. And only Scan this NJICS Favorite until you verify you receive transmissions.

2. Load all of Essex and Passaic so you have many more opportunities for transmissions.

3. Move around your home to see if you have better signal in some areas over others.

Also in your picture for NJICS I don't see any signal strength in the upper right...

Look here for reference:

The photos I sent were taken before updating database and all that other stuff I did. I do only have NJICS scanning at this time (Fairfield PD, West Caldwell PD and all of the frequencies associated with NJSP Troop B) and only have the West Orange simulcast on this as well.

So, those photos I took were from before I went through all of the steps you gave me to try. I had only FF PD, FF TACTICAL and west orange simulcast scanning. Then I saw your comment and added all of Essex County so they are all on there now in NJICS. As far as the signal strength, I just turned the scanner back on and I do see signal strength. It stays on for about 3-5 seconds, goes off for a second and then comes back on. The reason I attached the photos is because when it scans every other system I had on the scanner (Morris, Essex and NJICS)...you see it go through all the departments that are in that system. However, when it gets to the NJICS system, you don't see all the departments being scanned in that system. You just see "west orange simulcast" in the bottom part of that section. Shouldn't I see the departments quickly scanning through like all of other systems?

"ID Scanning" is normal. It's Digital. It locks to an ID and then displays and you hear it.

Fairfield is very very active now.

OK...so have been listening for a while now. I was able to hear feeds from Newark FD, Troop B NJSP, Millburn FD and Belleville.

If they are active now...then I am not getting them. I have been able to hear a bunch of other NJICS departments (Newark FD, Millburn FD, Belleville and all of Troop B NJSP) I am really dumbfounded at this point.

So, I am hearing a lot of the departments on NJICS..both police and fire. I wanted to try to put Passaic Co Simulcast on favorites to try it again; but, now, it doesn't allow me to do it (the append to favorites is greyed out again)

OK..so here is a funky update. So, I am scanning NJICS and NOW instead of showing the department, it shows "Uknown" with the TGID number (photo attached.) The funny thing? None of the feeds on my favorites HAVE A TGID #4679! In fact, ALL of the TGIDs that get displayed are not in my favorites list. I really am at a loss! HAHAHA

What have you tried next?

Maybe a reset of the SDS100 and start fresh. Here is a fantastic video on resetting and much more..

After you reset you may want to just use the zip code feature and see how that works out.

Let us know how you make out.
