I just bought a BCD536HD. I created a favorites list using the Sentinal software, saved it, wrote it to the scanner but it will not scan the list. When I first powered on the scanner I entered my zip code and that is the only thing that scans. The scanner shows that my favorites list is uploaded to the scanner. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

I don't own that particular scanner, but an SDS which operates the same. I think if you go Menu> Select lists to monitor> Uncheck Full Database, and Check [name of favorites list]

In the profile editor, check that both Download and Monitor are On for the favorites list. If attach your favorites list, I will check it for problems. Go to the File tab in Sentinel and Export to hpe file (Favorites List). You will need to right click on the exported file and Send to Compressed (zipped) folder to be able to attach it. Click on Attach files and Open the zipped folder.

In addition to the steps provided above, you have to also check on the following:

I just had the same problem with programming my own freqs on my BCD436HP. I created everything inside the scanner since I was away from Sentinel. Everything was programmed correctly but the frequency scanning never happened. I finally found out that in Sentinel, you have to select Edit Profile in the "Edit" dropdown and then turn on the service you have those favorites categorized as.

In my case, I found a few frequencies at my work for video productions going on in the studio and wanted to have them in their own favorites list. Under Service Type while creating the profile and frequencies, I chose "Media". Back in Sentinel, in the Edit Profile, "Media" was unchecked which I guess kept it from scanning the frequencies I programmed. Checking the Media box and reloading the list back to the scanner fixed the problem. Sentinel is an amazing piece of software for programming but some things like this can drive you crazy.

You can program the scanner without Sentinel and you can also turn on and off any service type thru the scanner without Sentinel.
On the scanner, hit menu, then scroll to set service types. Turn on or off anything you wish.

Just to add to what I said above, you said you added freqs and service type Media to your favorite list but they did not scan. Then you said when you were in Sentinel that the media service type was unchecked in the profile.

After you added the freq and service type to the scanner, I don't think you actually turned on that service type (Media) in the scanner. If you did, then it would not have been unchecked in Sentinel after reading the scanner.

There are many little settings that can frustrate the new user. Just one of them being incorrect will prevent scanning.

While you may not be seeing the "Nothing to Scan" message, here are some links to look at. They may give you some hints on what to check:
