Mike S, very interesting. In Las Vegas, the FBI run a lot of joint operations with other agencies. In addition on a few occasions units from Southern California were involved with the LV FBI units. This would explain why the D-4 (16t.5625) was conducted in FM. In many of the joint ops with IRS, SS, etc. would explain the usage of D-3 (166.4625). One case involved the FBI/Safe Streets Gang Task Force operating on the local Tac-2, Metro Police frequency. You never know where these guys will pop up.

Discretion is important in this hobby. I believe as you do, no real time reporting of operations. As far as frequencies go, I suppose it is all fair game, with one exception. That exception is Body Audio Transmitters, body taps, wires and the frequencies they use. That is the line I will not cross, because releasing those frequencies can seriously compromise a federal operation.

Mike

Exactly.

Another thing I have noticed, the list I have compiled has been good here, central VA, MD, PA, northern VA, Las Vegas NV, Scottsdale/Phoenix AZ, San Antonio TX, Philadelphia PA, and Boston MA.

Outside of Northern VA, Scottsdale/Phoenix AZ was the most active that I've been around.

This set in the 170 area is a strange one. USM has also been heard on these. I think the old USM & USPB freqs were originally in this area before synth radios allowed band expansion. Plus the Fed Court freqs. I think they were all communicating on these at one time.

170.9000 I had (many years ago) as C5 in NYC. I have heard simplex in all areas of FL PL 167.9.

170.8250 I had heard some years ago as B7 in S FL. I heard it used in NYC as well.

163.1000 was dead here in S FL until I heard P25 NAC 167 simplex back in July.

164.5500 simplex NAC 167 is common in S. FL. I also hear an analog repeater PL 156.7 with OTAR on it up north somewhere. I hear clear TAC ops some nights. Good listening!

166.4625 is very active in the Orlando area P25 NAC 167. I have heard analog for years. Some no PL, some PL100.0, and just the other week PL 103.5. That was an eye opener!

170.9000 has been observed as FBI, USPS, NPS in different regions.
Boston back in the 90's it was USPS, but they tore down that facility.

170.8250 was Low Power at some Federal Courts [Worcester MA] as well as FBI in NJ/NY

163.1000 is a Federal Common, so it's not UnCommon to get many different PL's and NAC's and in LAX Area it's an Interop [$653]

164.5500 another common shared.
CBP at 100.0
FBI at 167.9
USCG at No PL
ICE at 103.5 and $001

166.4625 another Treasury Common and Boy is this one messed up.
Had Omaha on day, trying so many channel combinations to finally find his Surv Ops, that he gave up. They were answering him, but THEY were NO PL and he tried PL and NAC [must be locked into the PL or NAC on RX]
Caught here have been $167, 100.0, $001, 103.5, $167, CSQ :)

Roger that, Bill. You have to love those days when they are going through all the channels. I call that "cleanup time". :)

Another thing I hear is what sounds like FBI (NAC 167) on simplex channels used in other parts of the state passing through my area from time to time. It helps to be near two major roadways. ;-) I like to search all the time for that reason.

Delta-15

About a week ago there was a joint operation, DEA & FBI. The CI working for the DEA was wearing a KEL body transmitter, the FBI's Safe Streets Gang Task Force was running multiple surveillance's in support of the operation. Several FBI units were at the meet site, along with DEA units, where the deal was going to take place. According to the radio traffic intercepted it sounded as though two of the DEA units had good reception on the KEL transmitter. What really surprised me next, is one FBI agent asked the other FBI on FBI-A-2, do we have that KEL channel, the other FBI agent replied, yes. It's on Delta-15.

Radio activity occurred on;

AGNCY CH. Designation RPTR-OUT RPTR-IN MODE PL/NAC

DEA (HIDTA) Hotel-9 (H-9) 419.500 414.475 FM 156.7

FBI/SSGTF Alpha-2 (A-2) 167.2125 163.9125 P25 NAC167

The FBI's Safe Streets Gang Task Force is comprised of the 1300 series units which normally operate on the FBI's A-2 channel.

H-9 is the DEA's primary Las Vegas Operations channel, but they have also been known to operate on A-1, A-2, A-3, A-4, and H-4.

Big change from the lists going around that came from Sabre I, II and III radios that only handled 12 channels. :) Gotta love those XTS Radios. ;)

The days of the Moto Sabre for Gov't usage has been long gone. Now, its the XTS-5000, 16 channels per bank, 3 banks per zone. I was kind of surprised not to see, or hear about more XTS-4000's being used by many of the alphabet soup agencies of the Gov't.
