Hello. Anyone know why when you wanna do a FCC license lookup on a tower, lets say in my case, the Ohio MARCS system, I keep getting messages that say "The FCC license database is down please try again later." I have been seeing this message now for several weeks. I use the lookup to see where the tower(s) are in regards to my location to see wether or not I shall be able to recieve the communications off of them. When I first signed up with RR, I was able to get the license locations (the locations of the towers). Now I can't. Is this happening to anyone selse, or am I just the lucky one:) Thank you, and I really like the beta:) BTW, it DOES work in the standard version of RR, but it does not work anymore in beta.

Not sure what version of the FCC database access software you are using. If you are using the ULS GUI one, I have not experienced an outage in...well I don't remember the last one. If you are using the old one (http://fjallfoss.fcc.gov/reports7/) it would not surprise me if you have problems.

If you are only referring to the message you get when clicking a license in the Beta version of RR that says, "The FCC Database is currently down for maintenance, please try back later" then it is no wonder. That is really not the FCC database, but a copy of some portions of the FCC database and I am not sure it ever has worked in the testing/preview version of the new RR site software. Don't use the "beta" version of the RR Database, it is not a "production" version and updates may not be made or may be made with invalid data just for testing purposes. It is only there for you to see what it will look like later.

Lou is correct.. the beta site is a copy and many components are not working. I've got a new code refresh that will take us to some offical beta testing and then production shortly.

Don't use the Beta site for anything "real" - it is there just to show you what the new site will look like.

Ok, why is it sometimes Ill search a particular frequency and the FCC search will shoot me to the window that has a ULS listing but when i click on the ULS, it says no lines. I tried looking up the frequencies of some of these GMRS repeaters and it never finds them. Also, why are some call letters not in the FCC database. I know my code and havent made a mistake. Ive looked up some call letters and the FCC database says they dont exist. Same from Google.

Not sure if you are referring to the actual FCC database or the copy of the FCC database we use here on RR.

Let's get one thing out of the way, I am only referring to the actual production (this) version of the RR Site. Not all of the FCC database is included in the copy we use here at RR.

Since the primary thrust of the site was (and is) public safety monitoring naturally those portions of the actual FCC database were copied into what Lindsay has linked from the various parts of the site. In addition most business classes and (I think) all trunking license types are included. That said there are plenty of parts of the FCC database that are not included but that does not stop someone (a DB Admin) from putting that license in the database. For example, take a look at Amarillo, TX. About mid-way in the list you will find a line detailing Emergency Services using a GMRS license of KAB9887. Clicking on that will get you the no information available message from this site; because we don't store ZA class license information. However KAB9887 indeed does exist in the actual FCC database.

Hope this clears that up for you and any others wondering about it.

Ok, thanks guys. I did not know that the beta version was sorta like a "test". It does look good, tho. I will use the non-beta version for information, then. Again.....sanku:)

I absolutely love the beta, and the graphical interface using the US Map. This solved my question as to why there were so many discrepancies with the beta database and current database.
