NO, they are actually going back the old VHF frequency's as there backup. Trunking is just there as another optionAre we losing FDNY Dispatch going fully time on the trunk system? With E
Thanks for the clarification! My comment isn’t to challenge or contradict what you’re stating, I’m just going off of word of mouth. Not everyone is super familiar with radios and how they work at the end of the day but I also do expect some knowledge, you know since you’re with a radio every day for (x) amount of years.NO, they are actually going back the old VHF frequency's as there backup. Trunking is just there as another option
Take this with a grain of salt, I’m not 100% on this statement.
I was told by a buddy who works for FDNY that the last time they had a major outage on the UHF side, they were told to switch to the 7/800 side of dispatch, he said that they would be using 7/800 moving forward instead of legacy VHF dispatch. I’m not sure as to why and the conversation didn’t go much forward to that as he was sent on a call right after we started that conversation.
Kind of surprising that it’s on E for ICN, that was a bit surprising, I’m hoping this isn’t the plan moving forward as this would be sad for the fire buffs (past & present) like myself.
What worries me is the fact we have some FD guys here and they're not chiming in. I know the PD scanning days are numbered but FD going E will really be a bummer for us buffs
Obviously, just an end to a great EraI guess "us buffs" will have to find something else to do.
Because they usually chime in when rumors start going around. What makes you think that the "FD guys," as a group, actually care about the FDNY going encrypted? How many of them actually know what you're talking about?
Kinda sounds like deja vu from when PD E rumors started going around years ago. I think NYC firewire is run by some FF and buffs, they send out pretty accurate and timely alerts scanning FD.I don't think the FDNY will go encrypted, since it will open up a can of worms with the press, other "hangers-on" (other than buffs), and members (especially Chiefs) who maintain "radio contact" even off-duty.
