The 8000 is the latest ship. Most entities getting motorola with the money will get the 8000 over anything else unless they go lower tier models such as the 900, 4000 etc but most I have seen aren't going with the 6000s anymore.

Since governemnt is involved everyone I know of lately getting the 8000s in has all bands enabled but most just use their specific band at least out in the southwest while some are programming in what is used in their region across the band's.

Anyone know a part # on this possible SP channel knob for the XE?

As always if a entity has the money and large enough contract order SP is always a available thing but you usually see it with large entities like nypd or fdny and so on. Others tend to go stock with the flashes and housings.

Looks like there's some kind of SP channel knob. When I saw one a few weeks ago in the field, it looked almost like the 5000/3500 channel knob, not the stock 8000 or 8000 XE knob.

This may have been why we thought the radios were not XE originally.

We still see 6000s being purchased.

If they're all band, then VHF is being used for just Grand Central?

The VHF repeater was shut down some months back, also the big wood box with the vhf xts-3000's on the old Taxi stand is gone. They use UHF simplex for now, FDNY is supposed to install their own repeater in the Terminal. There was way too much drama when they wanted to go on our glass system.

Sort of related, the other day I was at a high location in Midtown and heard FG 1 rebroadcast on NYFIRE83 (153.8300) for a call on a high rise building.
I wonder if this was the ARCS radio system describe here (https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/buildings/bldgs_bulletins/bb_2011-013.pdf).

I don't know if there are actually any FDNY usage on VHF anymore (other than Marine Units) or if the ARCS will become a legacy thing.
This was probably few months ago.

Same with me, saw a FDNY EMT at a local pizza place in the Bronx on Saturday. Didn't get a chance to talk with him though.

Usually cities and counties use this site below to sell their surplus of radios.

https://www.govdeals.com/

I have used them before and bought a boat load of radios. But usually by this time in the life cycle of these XTS 5000 radios and especially NYFD using them they have to be pretty beat up at this point.

What do you think they'll do with the retired xts5000s? Auction them off? I wonder how one could come across an auction like that.

Xts5000 probably stay around awhile, we keep spare radios for various things.

The xts3500, should get steamed rolled. They are just worn out.

Nyc sells the old rigs on property room.
I have never seen old gear sold

Depends on the contract, as some contracts call for destruction or return to M. PD used to destroy all their old radios, and other than some old MX's I have never seen any other NYC radio for auction or sale. There was a large cache of System Sabers hi split UHF with DES-XL years ago that I would loved to have had and they just disappeared.

Do you know if this apx8000 roll out is exclusively for FDNY or will participating 911 hospital be getting them soon?
