Per a source on another forum, it was a programming failure because they "tried to get fancy with the RAN's". The apparent mismatches caused an inability to communicate.

@Bote If you can acquire the RAN being used, I'll submit an update. I'm expecting either 0 or 1.

I'm guessing RAN eventually will be 0 (the NXDN equivalent to CSQ). So far every active railroad frequency I've found using NXDN (not too many) has been using RAN 0.

Right. FEC is off the RAN wagon for now. I heard a lone NXDN transmission the other afternoon, I think from a local switching the Port Everglades ramp. Maybe he dialed up the wrong channel?

So until they start using NXDN again we won't know anything official. No time frame on that yet.

You should hear plenty of BrightLine trains calling out their position and speed as they meet other trains, plus the ones that turn back south at West Palm Beach contact the dispatcher to make the necessary arrangements.

For now back to analog, their deployment of digital didn't go as expected. Hopefully they will have a KW / Icom rep. come in and explain audio profiles, use of RAN's, and the difference with propagation of digital v/s analog before they try it again. It's not as easy as merely changing the frequency usage from analog to digital and walking away. There are many benefits to digital, such as display of radio ID's, lower noise floor (when using 6.25) background noise cancelling, etc., but only if they are properly set up
