What's the difference between FEK (Frequency Exchange Keying) and FSK (Frequency Shift Keying)?

I had never heard of FEK until you asked - here is the best description I could find. The overview of FSK is here .They are both modulation techniques for transmission of data.. Have fun reading!

It appears to be that FEK is just like FSK but the data bits which normally are only on or off are "smoothed" out so that there's a short transition in frequency. Not that there's in-between frequencies, but rather that there is a very brief period during the bit state transition during which both frequencies (at half intensity each) are simultaniously broadcast (if the MARK frequency for example is at 10% strength then the SPACE frequency is at 90% strength), thus allowing for a narrower bandwidth by eliminating sudden changes in frequency.
