Right now from Daytona - Orlando down the east coast you can pick up the motorola digital system. The rest of the state is on a macom provoice sysem that you can't scan. The old motorola system on the east coast is being phased out. Orlando and Daytona expect the change in less than 3 months. So in a short time no more state law enforcement scanning.

FWC is on the state system.

Just fyi, I took my 396 down to West Palm last week. I monitored the FHP on the MOTO system from Cocoa Beach on down. Along I-95 I had 5 bars of signal strength and excellent reception of the digital system with just a 1/4 800 mhz duck. Around Jupiter it was the same story.

It's a shame they are doing away with the system. I can see why, it works so well they have to change it!

To listen to the State of Florida Motorola system, set the '396 as a standard Motorola 800 MHz system. DO NOT set it as an APCO-25 system! I'm reading that we've got only about another month or two of State monitoring before they switch to the new M/A-Com system.

If you are in Jacksonville, I doubt you will hear much on the Motorola system, that area is already using the M/A-Com system.

Hello Friends:

I don't want to sound backward or something but what is
M/A-com I have no idea.:(

It's just a different brand of radio system, like Motorola is a brand. The big difference to scannists is that the M/A-Com system is not scannable, and in the case of the system in Florida, it's also encrypted.

I can hear parts of daytona and further south depends on the weather. I wonder if DOC and *FDOT Law enforcement is on MA/COM*? I try to let it scan nothing comes up at all maybe everything went to that system that sucks since they took everything away....

If you're in an area that uses M/A-Com, then all state agencies are on it, FDOT Law Enforcement, Dept. of Corrections, everybody.

If you can hear State of Florida communications, then you're hearing the old Motorola system, wherever they might still be using it.

They never did build the motorola system north of Daytona or on the west coast of the state. The motorola equipment will be removed and sold when the macom system is brought on line from Daytona south to the keys. Very shortly there will only be one state system and it is macom provoice with encryption so no scanner can hear it. all state law enforcement will be on it. some counties are now contracting to use the new system.

Hello Friends:

Thanks for the answer:)

I think that when there is a need some one will find a way,
what I mean is if there is a system like the m/a-com some one
some were is trying to find a way to listen to it. I'm pretty shure
that before long there be a M/A-com scanner!!;)

not to start this all over again two quick points.
1. Many scanners will scan macom edacs, but none can scan macom Provice, it is protedcted by patents and no way around that.
2. The state system is also encrpted and by federal law no one can make a scanner to decry[t it and it is also illegal to listen.

So don't hold your breath. If you want more go search this site for will there ever be a provoice scanner.

You are right. They can listen to it whenever they want, but the point is that it is encrypted. So all they will be listening to is digital noise. And although I'm sure that the encryption key can compromised, I'm sure it's highly unlikely.
