I'm hearing some new frequencies on the SD system. I live in Iowa -- 32 miles southeast of Sioux Falls. Because I don't get everything, I like to listen to the SD trunked system in conventional mode. Digital -- but conventional. I also have a list of the inputs to the system because sometimes one of the helicopters will fly over me here in Iowa, using the SD system and I like to monitor them. I am too far from Sioux Falls to get that system reliably, but when they fly over I do get them. I can also pick up SDHP airplanes in Sioux Falls this way. In that list is 156.150. Supposedly that's an input to the system somewhere in the state. But today I am picking up both sides of the conversations, and it's more than one. There's also a squelch tail, so I know it's a repeater. It is also very obviously SD traffic -- not like I'm picking up some other user or anything. Plus, the digital NAC matches those of SD towers. There have been a couple more like this recently. My hypothesis is that the towers are getting new (replacement?) frequencies. The 156.150 has the NAC of the Beresford site, which is one I can sometimes receive. Also, the FCC callsign for the Beresford tower now has different frequencies. Only one frequency is the same. The old frequencies were:
157.325 (cc)
157.785
158.175
159.465
The new license has all different frequencies except the 159.465 one is the same. Also, the old control channel, 157.325 is still transmitting on that frequency . . .
I'm going to put these new frequencies in a bank by themselves and will let you know, but I'm under the impression that something has changed or is changing. But does anyone know for sure? If so it would save me some research!
