Law Enforcement officers have the right to protect themselves also, they are serving the public and protecting your life and property at their risk of personal life.

Their best protection is not hiding open information behind the guise of security. There have been too many cases where people have come to the aid of an officer because they heard the incident of their scanner.

Also consider the fact that public relations and trust of the police depends on openness and transparency. Encrypting every single police channel does nothing but foster mistrust in the police with question of "what are they hiding?"

Very well said!

Back on topic...

I wrote the NYPD today to find out their position on encryption as it relates to feeds and their position on the legality of live feeds. If anyone is interested I will post their reply.

Yes, definately. It would be a very interesting response and would shed some light how the largest PD in the US stands on this issue.

Bolt,

You should continue this topic in private. It's unbelievable that this can't be discussed in a civil manner.

Where are the mods? I run the Phillyscanner yahoo group and would never let something like this get out of hand.

I applaud the mods for keeping this open as long as it has. I usually thought any thread over 4 pages was an automatic red flag. This is very important and I think it can be discussed civilly if certain people would stay out and read the first couple posts from the OP. These are the same people who insult and comment on the literacy of others. Go figure.

At this point, I think it should be discussed privately. Since it's Bolt21's thread, he alone should comment on how we can weed the troublemakers out and get some progress going. He deserves some respect.

I agree. It's a shame, I thought this thread was turning itself around but I don't think it's possible at this point.

Where are the mods?

Nobody rang the fire bell indicating there was a problem here until this afternoon. Perhaps you should have done so if our moderating is so terrible.

We cant read every topic, and the Florida forum isn't traditionally a hotbed.

That said, I've lost count of the number of posts that I deleted.

I'm leaving the thread open unless people wont play nice...

I'd still welcome a response from the member that helped write the current FL scanner law. I know he's here. I don't remember his username. After all, that's what this thread was SUPPOSED to be about - how to proceed in changing current law.
