• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

What scanner do you have, and what programming software are you using?

Welcome to the RR forums. You're a premium subscriber so you should be able to use a number of software programs depending on what scanner you are using to download info directly from the RR database to app then to your scanner without the need for CSV file conversion

That's not a scanner. That's a two-way radio transceiver. If you believed you were buying a scanner, you were mislead.
Not only that but it's also a DMR transceiver. With a ham license they can be used with a local hotspot and talk all over the world. Can be quite a lot of fun but programing a DMR transceiver gets rather involved. If you are interested in ham radio I would say keep it otherwise there are much better choices for a portable scanner.

Update - I just noticed that on the Retevis web site the current frequency range is 150-160MHz & 450-460MHz

Retevis seems willing to sell their products to countries with little concern over the legality of the frequencies. The range above is not l legal for ham operators in the US and I think Europe as well.

There is a good chance the transceiver can be (opened up) to work on other frequencies. I ran into this on my Retevis RT95. It was sold direct from Retevis to me in the US but it did not support the US frequencies. I was able to open it up to mode 2 and it works great and I love the radio but I can see this causing trouble. We really do not need people buying these transceivers and using them like a FSR transceiver.

Retevis offers great value on their transceivers but please be careful.

Hope this helps, Dale

If it's what the guys are speaking of in the previous posts, no, especially if it transmits. Exactly what make and model you have?

But dose it still work like a scanner
It may well offer some scanning ability but most likely it will be slow, much harder to program and use, missing must haves like LO (temp lockout). Looks like it does have promiscuous function that may allow it to scan DMR but as I wrote in previous post DMR transceivers are complex to program.
