Wonder if anyone has heard this type of broadcast before.

Yesterday, I was monitoring SD1EVT (the events and special operations division talkgroup of the Metropolitan Police) and I heard an alert tone and then the dispatcher did a roll-call for a fallen officer (who died last week in a car crash).

[Alert tone]
Dispatcher: "7031... 7031, the unit with Officer Paul Dittamo to acknowledge the radio... [long pause] 7031... 7031 with Officer Paul Dittamo to acknowledge the radio"

Dispatcher: "Copy, no response from 7031 with Officer Paul Dittamo. All units be advised that 7031, operated by Officer Paul Dittamo is now 10-7. May he rest in peace."

Final call for unit

I have heard this for fallen officers as well as retirees in my locality. On another note: Early on Christmas morning if no major emergencies in the past I have even heard hazing of rookies who were forced to clear buildings looking for a bearded man with a red and white suit! True story and happened as late as 2006 in Modesto California.
