Since Uniden made the user ID so small on the scanner and by the time I can grab the scanner to look at the ID so I can tag it, it has already disappeared, I found that if you hit the replay, and it not only plays back the recording, but it will also replay back the user ID! Finally found a use for it!

Good idea! I've had that issue too, and have never ever used the Replay button - until just now.

Hmmmm, hadn't thought of that. I too have had trouble with the UID size. This will definitely help.

I've pretty much been using REPLAY in case I didn't quite catch a Ham call sign when monitoring the Amateur bands.

If only Uniden would provide some options on what is displayed and how.... such a large screen and so hard to see anything.

There was a time when I heard others compain about not being able to read the screen on the 396. At the time, I was like - what problem?

Now, being older and hitting that "your eyes are changing" stage, I can't read the stuff on that screen without reading glasses.... and it's really bad if I'm driving and do a quick glance to see something on the display -- talk about frustrating!

Maybe a bit more on topic -- I use the REPLAY button every time I power the radio(s) on - to enable global (persistent) recording... to include when the radio reboots itself and disables it (probably due to SD card issues).

Also, unfortunately, if you have user recording enabled (FUNC-REPLAY), the REPLAY button does nothing for you.

I've built us quite a large listing of user IDs (1200 in one county, over 4000 in another!), and now that one system is going from analog to digital (I'm hoping they don't change the user IDs) and another new system coming on line, the REPLAY is great. Yeah, those 60 y/o eyes just ain't what they used to be!

Hmmm.

Seems like a lot of people in this hobby are getting to the point where a nice big uncluttered screen with a nice big adjustable font might be a pretty big selling point.

I know I really appreciate the displays on the HP-1 and 2 compared to the other new ones. I think the 996xt has it all over the 536. Not even close.

My 66-year-old eyes are just like they were when I was a kid. OK, I just woke up from my dream. No they are not. I certainly hope that firmware updates for the 436HP/536HP allow us to more flexibly display different items. If I could just have a giant display of the 396XT info sometimes on the 436HP display, that would be nice. At other times, I would love to be able to display the CC/VC information for trunked systems like that on the WS-1080. Yes, there is a lot of display real estate, but it could be used much more effectively.
