Good Evening,

I viewed multiple threads trying to find a fix for this issue before posting with no luck. I am currently in Chesapeake VA , trying to listen to Norfolk PD/Fire , Virginia Beach PD/Fire/EMS , Chesapeake PD/Fire , and Suffolk PD/Fire Rescue. I have programmed them all onto my BCD996P2 scanner using PROScan and the only one that works is Portsmouth PD/Fire which is a neighboring jurisdiction from Chesapeake. Every other jurisdiction shows strong signal , but I continually get a FindingCtrlChan message. I have tried adjusting SQ up and down and it still does not work. Any one able to give me some insight on how to get this to work?

Thanks,

Chris

Not from your area, but I took a peek and my guess what you're looking for is on a trunking system. I would try these

I also did noticed the word Simulcast used. Lots of debate on this but the 996, although a great scanner, will not be able to decode well. The Uniden SDS 100/200 are the only scanners designed for simulcast. Again lots of debate, others can chime in as well.

The other thing I might do is have this thread moved to the Virginia forum. Just hit the report button bottom of your post and ask the moderators to move to Virginia forum so someone more local can help.

Is this the system you are trying to scan?

That appears to be a Harris system, so you need to have all of the site frequencies programmed. But as somn10 has already noted, your real issue may be Simulcast. I would also second his comment that you might get more details if you request your thread to be moved down to your state forum,

Went and reprogrammed my scanner without leaving out frequencies out that I felt were not needed and now it works perfectly.

That's the difference between a Harris system & one from Motorola. For the Motorola systems, you normally have a primary control channel, and up to three alternates. But on a Harris system, any of the system frequencies can (and often will) be used as control channels, and those often rotate between frequencies much more often that a Motorola system.
