Most, if not all of the regional centers do...TN (Tolland), QV, WW, LCD, etc. Most departments in the state are dispatched by the local police departments and follow whatever works for them.

Some multiple department towns may break up the numbers by department, some don't. The state has a town code system, but as there may be several departments in the same town, that doesn't work for fire (but usually for EMS).

For instance, you can have Station 46 in Tolland and a station 46 in Litchfield (don't know if there is one, but just saying).

My understanding was the regional dispatch centers agreed to break up the numbering. WW or Willimantic Switch Board was the original regional dispatch center and they were given the low numbers 1- whatever the original range was. As other dispatch centers became active and departments moved it started to become more disorganized. Right now if we have a new agency that needs a number we would look at that list and identify a number. We would then solicit feedback from the other regional dispatch centers to see if they are ok with this. I am only speaking for my regional dispatch center. I am not sure what the other ones do as far as new station numbering. The blanks to my knowledge are not in use by any of the other centers.

We have not faced a new station number issue in quite some time. Recently it has been departments merging and going from two station numbers to one. Stafford Spring Station 47 merged with Staffordville Station 45 and becam Station 45. When they created the Stafford Ambulance Association we assigned Station 547 as thier call sign. Mansfield Fire Station 17 and Eagleville Fire Statin 7 recently merged into the Mansfield Fire Department and they decided to keep Station 7.

Just out of curiosity why the interest in station numbers and in particular blank potentially unused numbers?
