looks like another big fire season on the way, Can we see if we can get more fire crew feeds online this yr? Should be intresting listening for sure. Most of the scanner for NM have lots of PD which take over the scanner feeds.
I've been looking into the logistics of providing a feed. I have a spare computer that I can dedicate to it, and with an external antenna should be able to pick up most of the traffic from valencia, sandoval, torrance, and maybe cibola, socorro and santa fe.
Just got to see what kind of sound card, software, and find a used radio... Or, I was going to see if I can help support someone else's feed if they might be in a better location.
I'm not sure of how an assessment of the coming fire season can be done when we are less than half way through winter. The southwest is in a long term drought period, but that can change or be interrupted by an above average winter now and again. If you have a source for an assessment of the coming fire season I would be interested in seeing it.
the local news reported the latest predictions from NOAA or some other govt climate agency and they are predicting below average precip at least into june and above average temps for most of the state a great mix for a busy fire season in at least late winter and spring.
Well if there is a fire and I can get any of the traffic here in the NE Heights of ABQ I will be happy to start a feed. I have a nice VHF rig with good base ant. mounted on the roof of my house. But again I guess it will depend on how far from the fire I am.
Yes I think we going to have a very busy fire season this year. Not much rain or snow, and its been a very warm winter so far. We going to be in trouble this year I think for sure and it does not look like its going to change anytime soon.
Try the Sandoval County - Rio Rancho / Santa Fe and Cibola NF Feed. There is a full time feed of the Santa Fe and Cibola NF including air and ground frequencies not diluted by other services on the right side of the stereo feed.
My opinion is too many of the other feed broadcasters are trying to cover it all, but you miss so much of the comms when the scanner stops on some other service. Try this feed during fire season.
