• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hello, I'll tell you a bit about these transmitters. I acquired two second-hand TK-7185-E transmitters to create a project to send data through the external serial port (COM2) and receive it on the other transmitter. The data is a GPS nmea frame. But with the original firmware of the TK7185 I got nothing, I spoke with a technical service and he told me that he barely knew that station but if the TK-7180 and possibly installing the firmware of the 7180 I could make it work, so yes I located the firmware of the 7180 but version K and installed it and now I see that I receive something but the maximum baud rate is 2400 and in principle that is not worth it, so I want to put the original firmware back (Which I do not have) and do tests with the speed that I discovered that if you enter another communication speed it does not work, so I want to try but I cannot locate the firmware of the TK7185E, and I would also like to try with the firmware of the TK7180E since the one I have is TK7180K and the frequencies do not match. And let's see if there's someone kind enough to pass them on to me, especially the one for the TK7185E or TK7185K in the worst case. Thank´s.

The Kenwood firmware for the North American market radios is not frequency specific. It's the same file for a TK-7180, 8180, 2180 or 3180. I'm not sure how that'll match up with the 7185E.

I don't have any European market firmware or manuals, though.

Looking at the in-depth manual for the TK-x180 radios and it's info on connecting data devices, like the KDS-100 data terminal, it only allows 1200 or 2400 bps.

... which makes sense, given that we're talking about analog radios. [add] Max data rate it's designed for is probably the Fleetsync "high speed" at 2400 bps.

Hi, thanks for the replies, I'm hoping anyone has the firmware for the TK7185E. I've already received the firmware for the TK7180E.
