I managed to snag one of these radios. As far as firmware, it there a sweet spot? I mainly listen to a P25p1 system.

joeuser...change the DSP Level Adapt from 64 to 16. I've had marked improvement on several trunked systems.

Has anyone had usb port issues when trying to install this update? I just bought a psr-800 and am trying to update the CPU...everything else (dsp, frequency files) upload fine but when I go to do this update I get the following errors:
On the port I usually use for updating freques/folders ""no data received from the scanner. Please restart this process from step one.".
On the other 2 USB ports on this machine ""Could not open scanner port. Port does not exist.".
I'm running Windows7.
Thanks in advance.

The best way to ensure you are on the right port open device manager and
ports .. you should see "GRECOM PSR-800 Serial Device (ComX)". Use that one .. I (and others) have installed this update with no problems.

If I remember I had to go into the device manager and do something or reboot the computer? It took me a while but I did get the scanner to talk to the computer.

I've tried it on all 3 ports, it shows up and device manager shows it's connected and working fine on each...I can do everything else, besides update the CPU. I'll try a reboot. If not, I'll try it on a different computer tomorrow.

Maybe it was to add a check to make sure the radio is really a PSR800 and not a WS1080.... Apparently someone tried to update a Whistler radio with GRE firmware.... I'm just guessing....

Troy,
I.m guessing the other way around: Trying to update a PSR800 with the Whistler firmare. Just sayin'

JK :)

My radio is also finiky sometimes trying to hook it up. Port issues & update issues when hooked up ok. Multiple clicks on updates to get it to work etc. I can update only on my laptop effectively. Both are Window's systems. Now I see GRE America site is fading away also. No more updates.

Problem has been fixed...As usual, it was user error.lol
I was in such a hurry to update things and get my radio working I didn't do the update process properly.
My screen-reading software didn't read all the steps so I figured it was as easy as plugging it in and sending the update to the radio...I didn't realize I had to put it in to "update mode" first...I had someone with 20/20 vision give me a hand and it went smoothly.
...Now I know. :)
